Don't know if this has been mentioned in other threads but thought his game against the hawks was absolutley sensational. Not very often you see a clanger come off his boot. Always seems to find a target when kicking out of defence. Has a great ability to read the play and take a mark. Just wondering if craig is thinking come finals time we could use him as a trump card up forward. A bit of the old blighty magic. He seemed to save our butts many times on sunday as the last line of defence. Unfortunatley he couldn't bag that goal late in the game. Admittedly it was a very tough kick. Let me know what you think, could he be thrown up forward for a bit of magic come finals??

I think we should keep Benny in defence, as we don't want to go back to playing the Hound at FB, as we would effectively lose 2 good players. However, if things aren't going well in a game or the opposition plays a small forward line, Ben could be used upn forward in a pinch-hitting role.

BTW, although he is usually a very reliable kick, he missed a great opportunity to goal on the WE.

Was a tough kick and perrie missed a couple from closer in on around the same angle. I think he can be excused

Great call, Ben has been neglected in this sites POTY votes this week, but he was an absolute rock yesterday. He is totally reliable, and that is about the number one virtue for a full back. He has improved tremendously this year and is having a bloody great season. Well done big guy!!!!

Agreed.

Fair enough not putting him in the top 5, because he was probably just shaded by a few others, but I'd like to know the reasoning of those who neglected to give him rookie votes. Didn't do anything wrong, provided good rebound, and was a rock down back when he didn't have a clear opponent to focus on.

He played a solid game down back. Was allowed to play more of an attacking game and loose man in defence. I thought he would have spent most of the day up forward due to the lack of Hawthorn's tall forwards.

He looks like a veteran already down back doesnt he?
What about the game saving mark deep into the last quarter .....Phew!

I suppose putting him into attack ala a Blighty move could work; but I doubt NC would go down this path.

I think he has been in my best team man picks for about 9 times this year as well as rookie votes. Couple of times in the top five as well.

Not overlooked by this little black duck. Always admire the way he goes about his business especially his run out of the back lines and sets up many a good forward thrust.

I'm confused why people have passed on the rookie vote this week.

Rutten's display was near faultless IMO.

Big, strong fullbacks of Rutten's quality are worth their weight in gold. For the first time since the inception of this club we have a REAL full back. We could use him as a pinch hitting forward if the need arises but we should primarily keep him in defence. If Bock can continue making CHB his own then we have the luxury of playing Kenny at CHF where he has been pretty good for us.

The most exciting thing about ken up forward is he is still learning the position and doing a more than handy job. Imagine how good he might be after a year up there.

Thought Ruttens game was the best he's played for the club.

Previously we have rated him higher because of lower expectations but as our expectations have raised we have marked him a little harder.

Thought he was in complete command and again his hands are very very clean - lots of scope for improvement in his game so he will get better

I thought his best game was on Jonathan Brown where he got 20 touches himself and was easily our BOG.
In terms of his ability to hold a player I'd agree - but his confidence and the way he's "strutting and commanding" the backline is great to watch.

BTW biggest slap on the back for Bassetts season - has changed my opinion and now is an untouchable

You have finally come around on the Hound :D. Where are all those people that said he shouldn't be in our best 22 let alone best 18?????? How would they like their humble pie?????? :D

Yep I thought he was near the end - getting slow and worn down by FB

Has a new lease of life and seems to be thoroughly enjoying his footy - IMO playing the best football of his career and very happy to eat humble pie ;)

I have always been in the Hound's corner. If I'm to eat humble or is that humple pie, then it could be over Bock.

I actually said on the main board at the end of last season that I think Bassett will go close to All-Australian this year.

I am trying to find it now but I cant find it for the life of me, it was a huge call when I made it but I dont think I am that far off.

He will not get the nod, only due to the fact he is a south Australian.

Right on the money there with the hound this would be his best season by the preverbial longshot would be a smokie for AA selection. Dennis Commetti his on the bandwagon.
