What do you guys generally think about the kid. I saw him play a couple of games of late in the season, and he looked quite good, quick hands, could find the ball, but I noticed he lacked abit of pace.

Do you think he will get a regular gig in your Midfield this year, and what do you think his future is shaping up to look like?

Cheers.

He has come along quite nicely on the Rookie List. I do believe that a lot of Carlton supporters have a slightly inflated expectation following his BOG performance against Collingwood late last year. The reason I say that is because we were basically playing Collingwood's reserves due to all there injuries at the time.

Having said that, I do believe the kid has a bright future at the club as a hard working in and under midfielder. He does have the ability to get the ball from the clearances and possesses reasonably clean hands. Can find the pill.

Queries on him are:

* Pace - not slow, but not exactly quick either. Can get left behind on occaisions due to this. ie/ refer Port Adelaide game when matched up on P.Burgoyne.
* Accountability - still young so this should improve, but at times last season didn't really pay too much attention to his opponent. Having said that, not too many of our players did!

Should form a part of our midfield rotation this season, especially with Camporeale gone and Koutoufides more than likely spending slightly less time in the midfield.

Realistically, I will be expecting Bentick to be playing 90% of the games next year in the main side and in the midfield.

He does lack a bit of pace, but lets not let that worry us. It is how he uses the footy that's the main thing.

He finished off last season great along with Simpson, Carazzo etc. So I would expect those names to be forming some part of our midfield rotations and well into the future too.

Just dont play him on Peter Burgoyne again.

I think he'll definetely be in the best 22, he showed real promise towards the end of the year and looks ready to nail down a spot of his own. He was exposed a bit defensively by Peter Burgoyne, but that's probably a bad match up.

He's very good in close at the stoppages, well balanced, neat disposal of the ball by hand and foot, but what I like most about him is appetite for the contest and the hard stuff which he showed by getting 8 tackles in games against the Roos and the Tigers towards the end of the season.

He should be in our best starting lineup. Sure he's not quick but we'll get some midfield pace in the draft, it's ok to have players who aren't complete athletes.

Didn't he come on around the 2nd quarter against Richmond late in the year and put the clamps on Coughlan? I think he could be used like a Ling/Kirk earlier in their careers as a negating type of player that can hurt them when the ball is going Carltons way.

Forget about the day he had against Port, bad match up against Burgoyne.

How will Blackwell, Bentick and possibly Hurn and Murphy play in the one team?

Not too many speedsters amongst them and we'd have to balance it with Russell, Walker, Carrazzo, Stevens and Simpson. Not a bad mix if it comes together and we can find the right balance.

Answer: Draft Murphy and Swallow?

Looks a good player. 2006 will be a make or break year for him to prove he's not another plunkett.
bit early to make a comparison with Plunkett. remember we rookied plunkett after he had already spent 2-3 years at the doggies.

Bentick is a hell of alot stronger in the clinches than what jimmy ever was.
