Roger Spaull has finished his latest biography (posted on the Boylesfootballphotos website (plug, plug)). I think I is worth a mention here, as Bevin Woods story will be of interest to many. The Intro reads:

"Jock McHale was the longest serving club coach at one club in the history of VFL-AFL football. He coached Collingwood from 1912 until 1949. When Jock stepped down as coach, at the beginning of the 1950 season, Bervin Woods was named as his successor. Bervin’s appointment caused an upheaval of gigantic proportions at Collingwood FC and he lasted just five days as the Senior Coach."

For me is is a great example in a failure of succession planning. Jock McHale's retirement must have been forseen and you think they would have planned for it well in advance....or not.

So why did Phonse Kyne get the job? was it just popularity?

Bevin Woods had solid experience at the club as a player and as a coach...

oh...and has anyone had a shorter tenure than 5 days or is that a AFL record...or just a club record?
