With many people questioning our once strong depth in quality players i was just wondering how easy it would be to pick our best 18/22 players regardless of position or injury and how closely everyone would agree with each others lists.

Definite inclusions (in no particular order):

1. Hird
2. Lloyd
3. Fletcher
4. Wellman
5. Misiti
6. M Johnson
7. J Johnson
8. Peverill
9. Lucas
10. Solomon

And the rest:

11. Barnard
12. Bolton
13. Jacobs
14. Rioli
15. McVeigh
16. Ramanauskas
17. Hille
18. Alessio
19. Watson
20. Harvey
21. Henneman
22. Mercuri (needs to prove he still has it)

Other players that could be in there are McGrath, Cupido and McPhee but i haven't seen much of them. And some younger players of note are Welsh, Reynolds, Richards, Lay****, Bullen, Bannister, Forster-Knight, Hunt and Davies.

Nowhere near 2000's depth but not bad if you ask me. The main problem is the form of the 11-22 players.

I think the people in my top ten are more important to our success this year but he rama is right on the brink of being there. In the next couple of years he'll become more important as his role in the midfield will become greater.

Please post your list DonFan so i can compare.

Unlucky:

23. Bullen
24. McPhee
25. Reynolds
26. Henneman
27. Lay****
28. McGrath, C

I've given my top 28 in the order that I reckon:

- Cupido makes my 22, just because he can play forward - the other haven't shown they can (yet).
- Bullen is my 1st emergancy - watch for this bloke in 2003.
- Mercuri still has a heap to offer, but will be an impact player in 2003 off the bench (much like Boris Bewick in 1999-2000).
- McVeigh has shown enough this pre-season to be the top of the rest.

I totally agree with dj21 - our depth in players 11-25 is not what it used to be. We need a bolter from that pack, much like Jacobs and Bolton in 2002, and Damien Peverill in 2001.

Can't belive how high some of you had Barnard and how low you had Mercs - true he hasn't done much since 99 but injuty free he's still a fine player.
