Best 22 for 09

Pretty good effort, not much change from this year though.

The guys that'll push for spots next year (and I'm basing on watching them in the VFL) would be Kangars, Davenport, Moles, Laidler and Donohue.

Egan will be right by mid year (by all reporting).

IMO West/ Mumford are fighting for the one spot.

Hawkins will definately be pushing for the KPP in the forward 50.

And Harry Taylor; pending Egan's recovery, will move into a utility role.

I think Josh Hunt deserves to stay. He's been very solid all year, and although he's not a flashy superstar, he's reliable and has good disposal. He improved his one-on-one contested marking/spoiling in 08 and overall played pretty well.

I don't know much about the VFL boys, but the only changes I see are Wojcinski and Hawkins coming on, for Lonergan and Varcoe. There will always be a few injuries, and these boys along with Davenport, Prismall and Djekurra etc will be on the fringe in 08.

Hunt will be pushing for selection with Wojack, Kelly and Vorcoe.

From what i have heard Egan will be very lucky to play football ever again. Which is sad, could have been anything.

Davenport, Djerrkura, Kangars and Hawkins will also be pushing into the 22. The rest will develop nicely in the VFL.

all up a lot will be determined if prissa and woja stay or go

as it seems both are gone

which will free up a number of high quality picks

I believe Prissa has also been offered a 3 year deal at Melbourne. At least he will known he will get a game there after his knee reco. Its not certain he will get a game at Geelong in 2010 either.

Well. if thats true, and he wants to take that, entirely upto him.

Brian Cook was very hopeful of Prissa signing on this week when they place the 2 year contract on the table.

Harley - Scarlett - Hunt
Enright - Egan - Mackie
Corey - Selwood - Bartel
Johnson - Mooney - Chapman
Gamble - Hawkins - Stokes
Ottens - Ablett - Ling
Blake Milburn Rooke Prismall*

*Wojo, Kelly, Varcoe, Djk - hard to pick for the last running spot. I'd like Djk to be given an oppurtunity to take the role Varcoe had for 3 or 4 games next year

As is typical with Prismall the moment he looks like he's made it ... serious injury. My team is not much different to this year. I assume Egan is 100% and if Milburn plays on I have him pinch hitting off the bench. The only reason Harry is not there is because I can't have two tall utilities + Rooke on the bench. I do second guess playing Milburn at all, not that he doesn't deserve one last go round but I don't know if what he does on the field will make the team better enough to not play Harry in his place who has a few assets Milburn does not.

And sorry I do rate Hunt as a defender :). I think he might need to slim down a touch - he doesn't need to be such a beast as a back pocket anymore (he pretty much always plays on an athletic small) and losing 5-7kg would make him quicker.

What would be better - getting semi regular games with a top side (and knowing that in 2 or so years you will have served your apprenticeship as a topline midfielder), or a regular game with absolute duds who drag you down? .

I'll have a go

FB - Harley - Scarlett - Donohue

HB - Enright - Egan - Mackie

C - Corey - Selwood - Bartel

HF - Johnson - Mooney - Chapman

FF - Gamble - Hawkins - Varcoe

R - Ottens - Ablett - Ling

Bench - Blake Taylor Rooke Prismall

Drifting in and out (or traded) will be Hunt, Lonners, Stokes, Byrnes, Kelly, Hogan, West, Wojo, Milburn

I think cats shjould make major play for o'keefe and offer up wojo or kel to get the job done. i think o'keefe would be handy as a half forward and would allow johnno and moondog a bit more freedom in the f50.... my thoughts anyway

Holy ****!!
That team would be freak with everyone fit ( but I don't think it would happen)
If we were to get rid of wojo or kelly I think ranga would fill that last spot!

i think o'keefe could be the acquisition we need and i don't think losing either kel or wojo would hurt us that much. would probably have to include picks somewhere in there but 1st rd pick for us is untouchable....

Just a quick thought / question.

After the group pulled together last year and took pay cuts etc. to stay together.
How do you think it would affect the spirit of the group if say wojo and kelly were traded for ROK.

Not too good I'd think.

This would be my lineup:

B: Josh Hunt, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Harley

HB: Andrew Mackie, Matthew Egan, Darren Milburn

C: Corey Enright, Jimmy Bartel, Joel Selwood

HF: Steve Johnson, Cameron Mooney, Paul Chapman

F: Mathew Stokes, Tom Hawkins, Ryan Gamble

FOLL: Brad Ottens, Gary Ablett, Joel Corey

INT: David Wojcinski, Mark Blake, Cameron Ling, Harry Taylor

EMG: Brent Prismall, Max Rooke, James Kelly

This is obviously considering everybody is fit and ready to go and remember injuries do happen so those emergencies will get games along with Travis Varcoe, Tom Lonergan and maybe Mumford, West and Djerkurra.

On the other side, how would it affect the spirit of the group when, as expected, Mooney, Harley, Milburn, Scarlett all get up and retire in the next 2-3 years????

We need to start looking now at ready made players who can fill voids left. Harry Taylor was a perfect example of this.

We cannot leave it upto Kangars, McKenna, Simpson, etc. to fill the void straight away in 3 years.

I think we can.

That's what planning is all about.

Milburn is pretty easily replaced right now, never mind in 3 years
The quality of scarlett is a tough one, but someone will pop up.
