Probably getting ahead of myself, but even though we have a tough run home, we should comfortably make the 8 from here.

Post what you think/want our 22 to look like in a final in 2017.

My team:

B: Geary Brown Webster
HB: Roberton Carlisle Montagna
C: Sinclair Steele Newnes
HF: Billings Roo Gresham
FF: Membrey Bruce Lonie
R: Longer Ross Steven
I: Gilbert, Stevens, Savage, Acres

Changes to the side that dismantled the tigers:
Out: McKenzie, Long
In: Webster, Acres

Probably need a fit Weller in for one of Acres/Savage to give us the balance we had against Richmond.

Hickey, Paddy, Weller, Dunstan, McKenzie, etc. offer solid depth.

Armitage is a wildcard, he could play a role for us with his contested work, but no idea what his fitness status is.

Please please please delete this thread - we can't be talking finals yet! We have a very tough run home whilst other teams around us have it a bit easier. It was always vital we win at the very minimum the Richmond or Essendon games, but if we lose this week we might lose the next 3 after as well against Sydney, Port and Melbourne and before you know it we'll be back in 10-11th.

Good line up

That cluster of Sav, Acres, Long, Dmac and Mav give us the depth for form and injury.

Probably the only question mark would be spot for the pressure forward - would love Mav but he's not in form.

Anyone can up grade or down grade their expectations at any time - hardly think having a thread that discusses the potential inside the team puts anything on the team other than that individuals own expectations.

Think the club has a handle on it.

Hey, if Jack Steven can talk about finals, so can we. Only Eagles can feasibly take our spot in the 8, but they're more inconsistent than us atm.

Finals chances according to Champion Data. Updated after round 16.

56% chance. Who's confident?

I dislike the tempting fate nature of this thread, but on the other hand, it's a Best 22 thread (trans: Barrels crack)... sooo...

The Team:
FB: Geary - Brown - Gilbert
HB: Roberton - Carlisle - Webster
RK: Longer - Steele - Stevens
CR: Newnes - Ross - Steven
HF: Billings - Riewoldt - Sinclair
FF: Gresham - Bruce - Membrey
IC: Montagna

Are the bolted on spots as it stands with regard to form.

The Question Marks:

McCartin - Can we fit him in the side? Can he find form that makes his position in the Seniors non-negotiable?

Weller - In form, he's a lock. Pace, hardness, leadership; he's built for finals football. He's in putrid form though, and struggling to shake off ankle concerns.

Savage - Was this week a fluke? Is he back to his attacking best? In form he provides us with much-needed pace and top class foot skills.

Lonie - Can never fault his endeavour, and most of the time you can't question his creativity or skill either. Is he simply too small for finals footy? Is his insane pesty nature worth the risk?

Dunstan - One who just doesn't seem to be able to make the jump from one level to the next, but he's got Senior experience from a young age and is built strong for finals. A 20-25 type perhaps.

Long - Provides the forward line with pace, pressure and a healthy dose of mongrel. Has form in finals at VFL level prior to being drafted so he can be trusted. Can he force the selection committee's hand?

Acres - Is he a case of hype over consistency? A potential match-winner at his very best, but makes some very poor errors when he's not 'on'.

McKenzie - Low on confidence at Senior level, but his amazing grab late in the Tigers game showed what he's capable of. Probably another 20-25 type at this stage, but thereabouts.

Hickey - Has he lost his spot to Billy like the latter did to him last year? Form is decent at VFL level but has been fairly ineffective at AFL level this season.

Freeman - Can he continue to press a claim for a Senior debut? Can his body be trusted?

Rice - A massive long shot, but one of the form kids in the VFL. Has a mature body made for the pointy end of the season.

Armitage - Been a warrior, but got injured at just the wrong time with Steele and Stevens waiting in the wings and Ross taking his game to another level. Might have missed the boat.

Wright - Will never die wondering, but might find it a bridge too far to break back into the side.

Minchington - Like a lot before him, is a completely superior VFL footballer who can't really translate that to AFL. A great depth warrior for the forward/midfield spots though.

White - Can he add to his debut last year? Our strength in the defensive mediums and smalls positions probably says no (for now).

The Maybes:
FB: White - XXXX - Rice
HB: McKenzie - XXXX - Savage
RK: Hickey - Armitage - Dunstan
CR: Freeman - Minchington - Acres
HF: Long - XXXX - Weller
FF: Lonie - McCartin - Wright

Oh no .... not again. ( shades of 2009 ).
I'd be tempted for a half fit Armitage over Savage.
We know the kind of guts he has and he CAN push himself enormously hard for a big game.

No "half fit" players in finals. Ever.

Haven't we learned our lessons?

If you look at last year, out of form Armitage with a bad back was better than Dunstan. I don't care if you look at the video or at the stats.

Holy hell, misread the whole '2017' part and couldn't for the life of me figure out why no one was questioning the lack of Rooey. Closest I've come to an aneurysm in months!!
