At this point unknown to the Sweet FA community, Headless shared their journey near Underground Stadium on their way to 500 games. Featured players included Kennedy Parker, Mobbs, jackster83, philreich, and okeydoke7.

Based on the captains' vote, it's time for another discussion thread! This one focuses on your almost Sweet FA stories - big moves that almost happened, but never did.

The OP was almost immediately 'schooled', as the kids say:

Almost told the funniest joke of all of time in a thread once but now I've forgotten so you'll have to trust me on it.
Please don't make a mockery of my thread.
I almost didn't.

The off-season traditionally creates a lot of stories, and none would have been bigger than Headless exploring their options back in early 2022.

In a really very funny twist of events, the OP masterfully used the ol' 'bait and switch' to play a BIG PRACTICAL JOKE, resulting in the thread nudging the top 20 of all time.

Some players - me, for instance - are very interested in the career trajectories of other players. And this thread did a great job of highlighting how some players have fascinating careers.

Did you know, for instance, that ClarkeM played their first 10 games at the Mount Buller Demons? The more you know!

In Season 33, Barrybran was openly chasing the Fred Medal. By Round 4, Barrybran had slotted four goals. In contrast, interchange specialist Headless had slotted six.

This thread, comparing the two, framed a potential shoot-out in their Round 4 match-up. Talk about HYPE!

At number 20, it's time for CONTENDERS :100: - a thread that highlighted potential award winners across the Mobbs (I Dont Care, Carson Dial, pantskyle, Callums_Guns), the Fred (NaturalDisaster, Mooch, Sab22), the beez (TheInjuryFactory, Kennedy Parker), and All-Sweet FA selection (WaynesWorld19, Elton Johns Wig).

Outstanding work, duly recognised in this top 40 list.

In mid-2020, Headless, under HEADANALYSIS, created a statistical analysis looking at how closely beez Trophy placing correlated with match thread posting numbers. Based on the analysis, Kennedy Parker, Fizzler, Harvey Manfrenjensenden, BRAB, and TheInjuryFactory appeared to be efficient posters.

And Clarkey loved the thread, of course:

Always love someone that goes to effort for absolutely no reason. That's what this league is about and I love it. Well done Head.

As we all know, the 'Big Four' clubs are the West Coast Wonders (shaky ground these days, however), the East Side Hawks, the Sin City Swamprats, and the Mount Buller Demons.

In Season 25, one reporter examined the heres and theres of each club's circumstances.

In a really very funny twist, Headless decided to venture off the bench in Season 36 to (successfully) thwart okeydoke7 in their quest for 1,000 goals. As it turns out, Headless was the best full-back the league has, perhaps, ever seen - and this thread followed their defensive destruction.

Milestone threads are, in some ways, the bread and butter of the league. But this one, featuring DenieD, Barrybran, Falconista, beez, and GWS Goose, really hits different. 🥧

We all know that sausageroll is a legend around these parts, so this pre-emptive celebration of their All-Sweet FA success, naturally, was an instant winner.

The number 13 is unlucky for some, but certainly not for this banger of a thread! Starting with a simple :tropicalfish: emoji, Headless thoroughly outlined their expansion plans for the Sweet FA's 14th and newest team.

:tropicalfish: LITTLE FISHIES :tropicalfish:

Introducing our inaugural leadership group:

Captain: Headless
Vice-captain: serial_thrilla
LG: Cadsky, JoshWoodenSpoon, fumbler, PhenomenalV1

We intentionally haven't poached any players from the clubs struggling most, such as the Ophidian Old Boys and the East Side Phoenix.

At number 12, the captains have opted for a season review of media contributions and contributors. Back in Season 29, the top media contributors were the Bombers (32 threads), the Warriors (27), the Demons (26), and the Wonders (25), before a big drop-off - I wonder how that compares 10+ seasons later?

And so we've reached the top 10!

And, based on the vote, the tenth best thread of ALL TIME is a LinkedIn-themed celebration of manangatang's time at the Demons - follow the quotes and take a look at the very nice images!

Today, we are thrilled to induct none other than the one and only manangatang to the MBD Hall of Fame. :partypooper:

manangatang entered the league back in Season 24. He debuted for the Fighting Furies in Round 15 of that season, notching up an extremely impressive one disposal against the Sin City Swamprats. Bizarrely, his next three games were against the Baghdad Bombers: a home-and-away encounter, an elimination final, and then an elimination final replay! It’s a minor miracle manangatang didn’t leave the league entirely.

manangatang played one more season with the Fighting Furies, for a total of 21 games, before coming to his senses and moving home to the Mount Buller Demons.

Season 26 was memorable for the Demons, registering premiership number two. It was a memorable season for manangatang, too; playing in the ruck, manangatang registered the most hitouts league-wide, and was awarded his first of (to date) six All-Sweet FA jackets.

manangatang took the captaincy in Season 28, and hasn’t looked back; mang is now the longest-serving captain of the Mount Buller Demons, and is nearing the record for the longest-serving captain of a single club ever (league-wide).

Perhaps manangatang’s biggest achievement came in Season 31, captaining the club to a third premiership, this time against the Baghdad Bombers. Justice.

mang is one of the league’s most-treasured posters. At time of writing, he has registered the eighth most votes of all time in the Sweet FA Players’ Association MVP – beez Trophy. He has finished top five in the award on four separate occasions, including winning in Season 28.

On field, manangatang’s career has been just as impressive. He has been named in the All-Sweet FA representative team on six occasions (Seasons 26-28, 30, 33-34), including captaincy honours.

And, as it turns out, we love him!

What came in at number nine? Just SSwans2011's favourite thread of all time, of course: Super Qario 64 - Sweet FA Edition!

Assigning each club (I can't recall if this was finished!) a level from Super Mario 64, and linking prominent posters to part of the game, this is quintessential media.*

*According to the 13 captains.

The Wonders and the Demons - the last two remaining foundation clubs - have shared a lot of history. In Round 5 of Season 29 (I think), they faced each other in what was cumulatively their 1,000th game - a huge occasion.

This thread outlined some of the history, and interviewed then-captains Dingster and manangatang.

Just missing the top five, we have a bit of an institution around these parts: the undisputed* top 100 qootballers of all time.

Applying a special and very complicated algorithm, Headless named the top 100 qooty players in league history - with stats (and then with updates (also with stats!)!)!

Tarkyn_24 is a league legend, but did something very, very naughty.

That’s some detective work, Less. Not much, but some
This is some serious "BTGID-ing", I'm almost ashamed I once played for such a corrupt organisation.
Just when I was about to tell Headless to shut the hell up he wows us with this.
