Media League legend mercilessly steals B&F award, doesn't show remorse

Hi everybody. Headless here. I usually am a little silly , and light up the league with light-hearted silliness , but I come today with a serious story.

A story about a league legend: Tarkyn_24.


A little background
As is my wont - and want - I was recently reading through the Mount Buller Demons' Season 8 best and fairest presentation, produced by none other than our dear friend Tarkyn_24. A couple of things tickled my whiskers.

Firstly, then-captain Tarkyn_24 appears to have awarded himself the Deestroy Medal, now known as the Demons' B&F award, for no reason other than being captain that season.

Now, to the awards, first cab off the rank is the Deestroy Medal, named in honour of the former captain – playing his final SFA match for the Demons in the 7 point semi final loss. In what is to become a time honoured tradition, the Deestroy Medal will simply become a token of appreciation to a year of servicing the club as the captain – or, potentially, captains. Therefore, this season winner will be Tarkyn_24, while retrospective medals bearing Deestroy’s name will also be distributed.

Now, that didn't become a time honoured tradition, but Tarkyn_24 has been listed as the winner of the Deestroy Medal - the Demons' B&F - since the thread's establishment:

"Of course," you might think, "perhaps Tarks also DID win the best and fairest award, further to captaining that season." And I thought the same, so I kept reading to check.

I was saddened when looking at the final leaderboard. Of course, this was mostly because Headless placed equal 25th in Season 8 - was this the season you dropped me, Tarkyn_24? But also because Tarkyn_24 did NOT finish with the most votes:

larkis was the loveable runt of the litter in season 2007/08, with abundant courage and sheer heart. Playing the majority of the year as an unfashionable Centre Half Back, larkis drew the attention of the footballing public with an amazing Round 1 effort. larkis based his game on his ability to run forward, he wasn't afraid to take on the opposition and had a beautiful kick. As such, he is a deserved fifth placing for our major award tonight.

5th 59 larkis

One vote ahead of the tall backman was the silky smooth midfield runner, V_Townsend, regarded as the league's best player on more than one occasion, notably after a single handed domination of a Gumbies outfit mid season. V_T, has he was known to teammates, had a tremendous work ethic and never gave in until the final siren sounded. His departure after 46 senior games will be a massive blow for the Buller outfit in 2008, but should be adequately covered by a surplus of midfielders in the Demons stocks. V_Townsend steals fourth at our count tonight.

4th 60 V_Townsend

A tearaway third placing for the heart and soul of the Demons, awarded to departing ruckman Deestroy, a fitting tribute to his time and efforts at the club. Headed into their new dynasty, the former captain still had plenty of a say in the middle, allowing his dynamo midfielders first use of the ball at nearly every opportunity. When push came to shove at season's end, he wasn't shy at all about playing out of position to give his side the best shot at a finals victory, and he will be sorely missed by his legion of fans, accustomed to the "double o" on the back of the blue and red jumpers.

3rd 66 Deestroy

"Skippy" polled a career best second in the best and fairest this season, losing his grip on the award in the last round of the season. The mobile defender played much of the season on the ball, and performed exceptionally in the ruck, regularly pulling his team over the line late in games. Tarkyn_24 will look to establish himself as a league force in his third season, and aim to take the Demons all the way, passion and exhuberance the weapons in his armoury.

2nd 67 Tarkyn_24

Therefore, the only player yet to be mentioned in the latest stage of proceedings must be the winner of the 2007/08 Best and Fairest. EddieBettsIsAChamp made a name for himself throughout the season as force in the midfield, despite signing with the Demons as a forward dynamo. He hasn't been shy about singing his captain's praises, but they don't amount to one third of what his teammates have said about him throughout the season. A breakaway first season, he managed to poll 2 votes in the Mobba medal, controlled tonights proceedings and has managed twenty-three games. His first placing in tonight's award is a surprise to no-one.

Keen-eyed players across the league would be aware that I recently brought this up in the Mount Buller Demons' current team thread, expecting shock and discomfort from Tarkyn_24. But instead:

If you keep digging you’ll realise that the best and fairest attributed to me was actually won by EBIAC,

But I’m not changing my bloody CV!

I wondered if anyone would ever discover it.

Tarkyn_24 knew all along, ROBBING club favourite EBIAC of another official best and fairest award. So my question is: was this just an administrative error on the part of former captain cats2rise when looking through the Demons' history books, or does it go DEEPER?
