Some of the toons that the kiddies watch these days are crap.

When I was younger I loved watching:

Astroboy
Star Blazers
Battle of the Planets
Speed Racer

I think all these originated from Asia (Japan??)

Your std ones, Spiderman, Supeman, Batman, etc etc were alright too.

I missed out on X-men, that seemed a quality toon, but they don't even show that now.

All the toons these days seem to be based on obnoxious misfits.

Catdog is a shocker and that Blonde rocker dude who thinks he's cool is extremely irritating.

Loved Battle of the Planets. Also Ulysses, Astroboy, Star Blazers. But my two favourites were Masters of the Universe and the Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon. They rocked.

P.S. I already know I'm a geek

Hope some of you guys know the ones from my vintage

Herculoids were great
Wacky Racers probably the best
the animated Star Trek series done for one season
Space Ghost
Scooby Doo
Milton the Monster
Marine Boy which was really bad, lol
The Jetsons
The Flintstones
Cool McCool

I have a site if anyone would like to look up Saturday morning programs from the '60's, ............. enjoy

The Best cartoons from my early childhood

He-Man (I still have Castle Greyskull)
Thundercats
Voltron
Transformers

I didn't mind Astroboy, but I wasn't allowed to watch it because it gave me nightmares.

Awesome list from Asgardian. As much as I loved Milton the Monster I don't think it was quite an action cartoon. I loved Herculoids and Space Ghost. Birdman was another great action cartoon and SuperFriends was just sensational: all the major superheroes hanging out at the Hall of Justice.

  • Transformers
  • Voltron
  • Battle of the Planets/G-Force
  • Star Blazers

I actually remember very little about the last two, other than that I used to love them. I looked up some website about BotP a few months back and it rang absolutely NO bells, mind you we did get a cut-down version from the Jap original (the mean baddie was actually a woman, and one character dies from headaches???? I couldn't have handled that at age 5...)

But nothing beats Transformers, I'm sorry: NOTHING. The Generation One cartoon is legendary, the movie was one of the most mind-scarringly violent and totally cool kiddie movies ever made ("Oh shlt, Bumblebee, what're we gonna do now???"), and Beast Wars was so much more than just a standard CGI cartoon that you had to love it. It actually had a serious plot! It had characterisation! In short, it rocked. And even if the new cartoon (Robots in Disguise) is kinda lame, I still love buying all the toys :D

my favourites (in no order):

He-Man
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Thundercats
Scooby Doo

Now, those were cartoons!! Not the crap they put on these days (not that i have the chance to watch cartoons ;) )

Not suprised, Astroboy aswell as Star Blazers were very deep for cartoons.

If your open minded enough then head down to your local video shop and try renting a manga.

You want action in a cartoon believe me they will give it to you. :)

AKIRA still the greatest anime ever produced! ;)
