What do you consider to be the best stealth game of all time?

For it to meet the criteria, the gameplay must primarily revolve around stealth, so you can rule out games like San Andreas which have stealth sections in it (which suck).

Took out Hitman 2 (stealthily) and put in Contracts. Then voted for Contracts. Phenomenal game.

Went Metal Gear Solid 2 even though the first one is probably the better game in terms of pacing.

I just love all of the curve balls MGS2 throws at you and the new ways of interacting with enemies (hold ups, extinguishers, etc)

Thief by the length of the Flemington....

AC, FC3, Batman, Crysis..... They are NOT stealth games. They are action games with light (and in 3/4 of those cases I mean EXTREMELY light) stealth elements.
Except they're all under the 'stealth' category from the sources I get infomation from.

Out of curiosity, did you ever play Far Cry 1?

Like I said, they have light stealth elements but in no way known are they considered traditional 'stealth' game.
Yes I have played the original Far Cry.

Not questioning that, just saying I'm using them as my basis for these polls.

As for Far Cry, as I said, just curious. I've played both Far Cry 1 & Crysis 2, both made by Crytek, and I consider them both to be stealth games, so I would naturally figure the first Crysis to be a stealth game too (the sites I gather info from think to too).

Didn't play the latest versions cos I got a bit over stealth games but I loved the first two.
Yeah I don't think I played the latest one, or whatever one didn't come on PS3, but the others were very, very good

Crysis is first a foremost a first person shooter to me. Stealth is an optional style of play. To me, to qualify as a true stealth game, stealth must be the only way to complete the objective. I'd say that's how most fans of the genre feel with it as well.

Search function on this board lets me quickly browse the Top 100 thread, and for everyone that had Metal Gear 4 in their top 25 had one of the previous Metal Gear Games higher on their list (or one of the other poll options) & I want to minimize as many votes for 'Other (Specify Below)' as possible.

Still probably deserves a spot, but I had to squeeze something out for Deus Ex.

Fair enough, personally love both Deus Ex and MSG4.
