With so many rookies building great value so quickly it will soon be time to look at upgrading to some premiums.

So far, a number of guns have been well down. A number of mid priced premiums have scored at the elite level. Some old favorites have come back to the fold.

Who are the best value premiums?

Who are you looking to bring in for the rest of the year?

ROK is value @ $403,900. He has dropped $36,000 and still averages 94.4. This comes off 2 games in a row played in very wet conditions as a lead up forward. I expect him to increase again and will probably bring him in for Callan Ward.

Jack Riewoldt seems to average ok (when you factor in that he scored a donut...) and he's dirt cheap. I'm thinking of getting him in for tapscott...

Problem with ROK is Sydney's schedule...

Played the 16th, 12th, 13th teams straight up for points allowed [SC points, specific to forwards]...
...their next 15 games (from rd. 4. onwards) are an av. of just 6.23! [plus a GC game]...actually 16, 'cause then there's a BYE.

I do agree on the surface that games v. Port, NM, Bris, Rich look good for him, but he might struggle in the rest...

Anyone know much on Hodge atm? He and GAJ after GC second bye will be easy upgrades from Curnow and Libba soon. Will he turn it around? (Aint seen too much of the Hawks this year)

Still clearly not fit.
Clarko said earlier in the season that he was hoping Hodge would be right by mid season - so perhaps hold off on him until he starts showing form.

Maybe a cheap Montagna as M6 lock is the go in a couple of weeks.

You're probably a bit late with that one, everyone jumped on him last week before his $28900 price rise, still not bad value though. I'll be looking at didak, lake and rok. Then maybe hodge a bit down the track.

stay away from achilles injuries

Agree. Been there myself, and it doesn't get better until you have some solid time off. Unless Hawthorn give him three or four weeks off he'll probably be managing it for the rest of the year and it's obviously affecting him.

Here are a few, you guys better bloody thank me for this. certainly opened up my eyes to quite a few of these gems.

Few people would certainly be looking at a defensive upgrade after trading Otten out for L.Thompson/Hibberd, pocketing the cash and can now afford to upgrade to someone else. (Duffield looks good, massive price fall, 9 of 18 games at home in a top 4 team, been able to produce massive scores, definitely one to watch)

DEFENDERS:

Brian Lake, $444,700, ave. 63.97 ( - $64,000)
Graham Johncock, $424,000, ave. 79.40 ( - $69,100)
Chris Newman, $435,200, ave. 102.50 ( - $15,700)
Heath Grundy, $407,800, ave. 87.25 ( - $26,800)
Paul Duffield, $400,200, ave. 84.40 ( - $41,300)
Sam Gilbert, $373,500, ave. 73.80 ( - $77,000)
Brady Rawlings, $366,000, ave. 78.20 ( - $106,000)
Jordan Russel, $353,100, ave. 75.17 ( - $68,700)
Shannon Hurn, $350,500, ave. 74.60 ( - $61,200)
Matthew Scarlett, $380,000 ave. 98.00 ( + $39,000)

MIDFIELDERS:

Gary Ablett, $569,900, ave. 109.00 ( - $62,000)
Joel Selwood, $516,800, ave. 92.00 ( - 56,400)
Luke Hodge, $514,700, ave. 93.25 ( - $52,100)
Nick Dal Santo, $509,900, ave. 114. 00 ( - $37,400)
Daniel Cross, $509,700, ave. 103.40 ( - $44,800)
Marc Murphy, $507,800, ave. 112.83 ( - $36,700)
Chris Judd, $507,700, ave. 114.17 ( - $69,000)
Leigh Montagna, $480,800, ave. 97.40 ( - $77,900)
Shaun Burgoyne, $451,100, ave. 93.20 ( - $33,200)

Jared Waite, $382,000, ave. 74.17 ( - $45,200)

Cheers HFF.

I'll admit to looking at a couple of that list this week.

Cooney i thought could be a nice unique cheap premo but faded badly again this week so maybe not.

Looked at Gilbert and almost traded him in but he and the Saints are yuck, Didak is probably the other notable that isn't on your list (perhaps because he has a bye).

Reckon i'll be looking and hoping for a Lake like performance to upgrade down back and possibly Monty if he can show a bit.

I thought Cooney, but agree, another disappointing game, think it is harder for us Melbournians (no discrimination) but it is harder to pick out the interstate premiums ahead of the Melboure ones.

Of the defenders, I am certainly looking at Lake, Hurn, Newman or Duffield/

Whilst in the midfield, gee Judd at 507 is very bloody tempting.

Yeah I actually traded in Hurn last week for Duigan a week early. He has a decent record against Melb and thought it might've been worth the money i'd probably lose. 20 points gained so not a loss but nothing great. Reason i like him is less than 2% teams have him and his break out year occured when Waters was down for most of the season which he is again so hoping he can bring out the those monsters he's capable of. Wish he bloody kicked to himself before kicking out though :o

Oh nice, I like the idea, think you could be on to something!

May hold off for a week and see how Lake goes, they (Bulldogs) did play the best team in the comp, mind you, he plays well, he is out of reach.

Like the look of Newman, whilst Hurn is the cheapest option, but could potentially be the best to.

Out of curiousity, what would you do, upgrade Curnow > Judd or Duigan > Hurn?

Just for my worthless opinion, I'm thinking of the possibility of Duigan > Newman
Looks good. Just my 2 cents worth, And I already have Judd so....

Agree, Judd is very cheap and Selwood is tempting too, among others.

The problem is the midfield rookies are going so well it's a big call to cull them this early when they're a fair way from their peak.

Forwards, Chapman is the standout to solve the inconsistent forward options that has everyone tearing their hair out.

The bye is definatley playing into thoughts about who I pick up.

Want to wait until after Round 9 before I pick up GAJ. Just hope he dosent start increasing his price before then.

Im trying not to have more than one player from each team in one position by the end of the season, which means no Pendlebury (as I have Swan). I already have Judd which means I dont want to look at Murphy. Rules out Newman for me also as I have Deledio.

I dont want to grab Watson since the Bombers have the final bye.

Grrrr. Its making me mad.

I do want to chuck Enright and Chapman into my teams eventually. But the solid performance of a few cash cows makes this difficult to justify at the moment. :thumbsu:

Just my opinion as I'm new to this, but I reckon Curnow is a keeper for this year.[/quote]

I am thinking that, however. Judd is averaging 115 (Curnow 99), so that is + 16 points per game, which will only get better one would think, whilst his price is reasonable also.

Do think that there are many underpriced value mids available, so will probably go, Duigan > Hurn, or even Paul Duffield as a smokey.

Fremantle do play 9 (of 17) games at Patterson stadium, with only Collingwood (Rd 23 @ Home), Carlton (Rd 21 @ Home) the only real major challenges for the Dockers.

Paul Duffield did average 90 last year, and 97 the year before, so has a history of scoring well.

Shannon Hurn does play 9 of his 17 games at Patterson stadium also, however the Eagles play Collingwood, Fremantle (twice), Geelong, Essendon (Twice) and Carlton, so could potentiall drop in price even more.

i really do not know who I should go after.

Thoughts people??

Definitely looking at Adcock, Ablett and Chapman as my early upgrade targets.
