I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about who were our most important youngsters moving forwards. It got me wondering as to who our best young players are from 2005 draft onwards.

I would be interested to hear what essendon supporters think. At this stage, in order, I believe our best and most promising are:

1. Ryder
2. Davey
3. Reimers
4. Houli
5. Lonergan
6. Myers
7. Jetta
8. Neagle (if fitter he could be awesome!)
9. Dempsey (could probably be near the top of the list if not for injuries)
10. Gumbleton (see above)
11. Pears
12. Hislop
13. Daniher
14. Hooker (havn't seen him apart from the nab cup but was impressed)

Who does everyone else think are our best young players, in order?

Does 25 still classify you as a youngster?

He will not play until next year. He will be 25 for the majority of the 2009 season. I don't think most teams would have that type of player in their "youngster group".

Just my opinion. I'm happy to accept yours.

Jake King ;)

By the way I agree with you, Davey is not young.

We drafted him in 2006, and the idea of the thread is for people to rank our draftees from 2005 onwards. He's in his second season now, so in terms of afl experience he is still a youngster. Perhaps you should read more carefully before you post next time.

Sorry, but I disagree. Your post describes the best young players from the 2005 draft onwards. Davey may have been drafted in the 2006 draft, but he was a mature age draftee. Not a youngster in the mould of a Deledio (17) or Cotchin (17). He had over 5 years of extra preseasons and mind /body maturation on his side. That is why, injury permitting, we will get at least 13 seasons from those guys whilst Davey will give only 8, 2 of which have already passed.

If it's that important to you mate, omit Davey and rank the other 13 players.

Ok. From an unbiassed point of view:

1. Gumbleton (proviso he gets over his injuries)
2. Ryder
3. Neagle.
4. Houli
5. Myers
6. Jetta
7. Reimers
8. Lonergan
9. Dempsey
10. Pears

You guys need those first three to stand up as the careers of Lloyd, Lucas and Fletcher are coming to an end, so that another prolonged successful era eventuates.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for your input YellowAndBlack. :thumbsu:
Too hard for me to do it, different types of players and like all of those young players' upsides.

A pretty good list and I agree with Gumbo being at the top. But surely you have got have Neagle in your top 14. For me, he is in our top five.

Agree with most of this, well thought out and detailed. At last someone who knows something wbout Hislop (the new JJ).

Would have put Neagle in there ahead of Daniher and Jetta ahead of Pears. Think Neagle will be our FF and Jetta a wing/mid
