Downloading an IP changing program gets around the problem of not being able to bet in play online.

Like seth said,

You better make it foolproof otherwise you'll be banned. Betfair apparently are spending big to catch these people doing it, because there are massive fines if betfair allow it to happen.

I must admit I have been getting around the in-play betting way for about 2 years now from Australia, and I tell you there is a heaps advantage over using the phone. Betfair cannot catch you unless you have good reliable IP proxy.

Its frustrating not being able to bet in-play as I believe that the fact that we can bet over the telephone, shows that there isnt a problem with in-play betting itself, its the way we do it. For example in a sport like basketball, tennis, cricket the odds can fluctuate so fast 30 seconds prior you ringing Betfair up and I for one miss out on odds when I want it.

I just find it a bit strange when you can place bets with other bookies in-play they accept it for example bwin, bet365, williamhill, bluesquare and Betfair you can't.

It is illegal for an Australain citizen to bet in the run over the internet with a licenced bookmaker. Thats why you can bet with Ladbrokes, William Hill, etc (not licenced here) but you cannot with Betfair, TAB, Cbet etc.

Very foolish of you IMO to try and get around it.

Not only will you be automatically be banned once they find out (and they will) but you are also jeapordising Betfair's place in the Australian market. It took nearly three years of hard graft for them to eventually get a licence and if a couple of rogue traders are discovered, it could be taken off them.

As I said before, this legislation (Interactive Gaming Act) was put in place to weed out online casino's. Unfortunately Betfair and its ilk weren't around at the time and therefore sports betting was not provided with an exemption.

Its being worked on behind the scenes and I think one day it will eventually pass.

Absoloutly no hope of going through with an ALP government though.
