The big No 21 did a good job tonight. I bagged him after the intra club scratch matches but he shut me up this time.

At one point A Rocca lined him up during a marking contest but just bounced off him. We need that sort of strength at CHB.

He also looked adept - if ungainly - when running the ball out of defence, and he's got a kick like bad homebrew.

i'm officially a fan - Q4CHB!

Strength is definitely not the issue, pace is.

He played very well tonight, the true test wil be if he can back it up against Melbourne's talls next week (If he plays)

It was an encouraging performance but his disposal was terrible. If he turned the ball over like that in the regular season it would hurt us badly.

His disposal wasnt the best, still has the tendency to throw the ball on the boot at times. Wouldnt have rated it as terrible though.

I am all for Quentin playing CHB. I think tonight he showed that he was willing to make the position his and although he did some things that weren't pretty he certainly had a go. Give him time to get used to playing at this level and we should have a spine that is starting to take shape.

FF Doogs
CHF Johnson
CHB Lynch
FB Glass/ Gaspar

Certainly is nice to have the agony of choice over a few options in the spine, rather than trying to take the lesser of two evils

I thought Seaby showed good skill and balance (for a big man) when he went forward. Also a good kick of the football. I'm sure he could also fill in at CHF with his size while doing a bit of ruck work.

It's as if this huge weight has been lifted knowing that we could have some options for a change.

Staker, Glass, Hansen, Beeck, Gardiner, Hunter, Jakovich and Gaspar could probably fill any of those positions. If we can get them all fit and ready by the start of the season it would make a huge difference.

Carroll might actually have to play a few games in the WAFL rather than being a walk up selection.;)

agreed. he seemed to grab the ball and through it on his boot at times. he looked good but i still don't think he's good enough to get into our 22.

I think he was fantastic. Yes his disposal let him down a little bit but I think that should all come when he gets a few matches under his belt. You cant expect someone to just jump into a team and start playing well from the onset. It takes a few eeeks for them to tune into footy at an elite pace/standard.

I'm glad to say he impressed me. I wasn't happy that Staker and Jako were gonna miss the game, coz I thought they were better than Lynch, going on what I saw at the scratchies.

I liked when he knocked the Pies out the way! His weight and size is an advantage, if only we had someone with Lynch's size/strength and Staker's skill/agility.

Big Quinten has obviously styled his game on old fashioned backmen like Dustin Fletcher and Micky Marty. Whenever under pressure, just shut the eyes and hoof the ball as far as humanly possible. Also love how his kicks usually go just as high as they do long.

The best part about his game yesterday was the way he so casually scragged and bullied a 110kg monster like Rocca. Seemed genuinely bemused when Anthony remonstrated with him, too.

Would love nothing more than to see more performances like this from Quinten, but I'm still pretty skeptical about his ability to play down back on a permanent basis. We'll see how he goes next week when he'll probably have to take somone like Jeff White, or maybe even David Neitz.

Quince did a good job at CHB last night. Spent most of the evening on Rocca and kept him quiet which was the main aim. Will be able to match body on body contests for the biggest CHF's, but may struggle for pace when lining up on the more quicker and agile forwards.

I think Quentin has booked his place in the team for round 1 given our injury problems at the moment.

He's definetaly worth a shot. We don't have many options and after last nights performances we've seen that he can produce good performances against some top quality opposition.....

he's kicking was quite dodgy but it usually went 50+ so if nothing else it means that the opposition requires a kick (or a little more) to get back into the same position......

ATM he's my preferred choice for CHB given our injury woes........

Pretty much agree. Certainly, on the basis of yesterday's effort I'm struggling to think of anyone better equipped to handle someone like Darcy or Rawlings.

I'd like to see how he goes over the next few weeks, and whether he can sustain some decent form over the wiz cup. Certainly, he did well on Rocca, but I'd like to see how he goes with slightly more agile forwards, or blokes who are quicker on the lead before he gets the guernsey. Jeff White or Neitz next week would be a very good test for him.

Jako would be on the bench. I would use him as a burst player off of the bench this year and would probably only play him in home games.

From what I heard in pre season I was terribly disappointed in Lynch. Everyone was bagging him following the intra-club scratchies, but Lynch was pretty damn good on saturday night.

Towelled up Rocca which is no mean feat, obviously he needs to do it with consistency but it is obviously a big step up from what he was doing in the intra-club games. The real truth may come out against Melbourne on the weekend, can he back it up?

ps. Gaspar for CHF!

Johnson on the bench

if Quentin doesn't work at CHB in the real stuff, I'd use Gaspar at CHB when he gets back in and use either Doogs, Cox/Seaby/Gardiner at CHF and the other at FF.

I reckon Gaspar is the best CHF in the team but the others can do a reasonable job there, and if Lynch isn't up to CHB than Gaspar is really the only other guy that can play there.

It's more a case of minimising our weaknesses rather than increasing our strengths if you get what i mean.

Until we get a guy who can hold down CHB to AFL standard than I'd be playing Gaspar there.
