Sorry about this but on the afl forum some tool is claiming that big ant is the most overated in the afl. Sure he isnt playing his best footy atm but he is playing a vital role for us week in week out. He is no 1 in contested marks in the comp (a highly underatted stat in modern day footy). His contests are strong and he never gets out marked. I just hate people who pick on players when all they look at is the stats in the paper (particularly the behinds column). If they watched a pies game without hatred towards us they would realise they are completely incorrect. Some of these people have no idea about the game and should shut their mouths.
Somebody even said luke ball was nothing. Its just comical to think how somebody could come up with that rubbish

Best has past him, but is still more than useful almost or most imporatnt player, will still be loved by the faithful though as he puts in 100% every week as he has done since he came to Collingwood.

I don't agree, I think he has the yips, you can't be shit when you're taking group marks againest 2 or more players....He leads contested marks, he'd be the only player you'd try kick it to if there's more then 4 players in it, the problem is just the converting!

I don't know why people have ever suggested that he was some kind of star player - Realistically, he has just been a decent forward for us, capable of igniting the team when he's in good form, or turning a game in a quarter.

He isn't, and hasn't ever been an All-Australian calibre player - Nobody would argue that.

I just wonder why a guy like Rhyce Shaw or Presti can be applauded for just filling his role and doing a job in the side, but a guy like Rocca can't be similarly lauded - It's like when you're a forward, you're either a superstar or a dud.

Compared to guys like Mark Richardson, Aaron James, Trent Hotton, Ben Wilson, Jonathan Ross, Steven Pitt etc etc Rocca is a star player.

Yeah, but we better raise our expectations, because with a low bar like that, guys like Travis Cloke, Sean Rusling, Ben Reid and Chris Dawes will blow our minds!

You'll forgive me if i wait till they have the runs on the board before i get to excited. Had my hopes dashed to many times before.

Re: Big RoccaA form and he was fighting for a spot with Warren Tredrea.

I don't agree at all.

In 2003, Anthony was in AA form, and he was fighting for Warren Tredrea's spot. I thought he was pretty stiff (to miss out) that year - I don't think we would have made it that far into the finals without him. He was the difference in the end.

Anthony will never be remembered as a champion but I will remember him as a very good player.

I don't think Rocca has ever been our best player but he is the most important by a mile. The Bulldogs would kill for him in their side at the moment. He can be down all day which happens a lot and all he has to do is take a big mark at 60 turn and goal and it gets the crowd and players going. Not a champion but a very important player.

Wasn't it Richo's old man that vetoed Pluggers move to vic park?
Ahhhh the bad memories are flooding back to me. :(

Oh well, he only had another 500 odd goals left in him by then.

Most important player on our team. Any serious hopes we have start and stop with him.

And Pendles.

He has the importance to the side...that's why he is and always be our key. It is true that he is certainly not the best forward in the league, and as jabso said, it is strange as to why people thought that.

I am pretty sure Sheahan had put Rocca in his top 50 at like no.10 one year, is that true?
