As the year draws to an end, thought I'd take the opportunity to offer up a big thank you to all on the board that took part in those things that have genuinely made us a community.

This has been a horrible year to be a Bombers supporter; and yet, I could not be more proud of the way we have conducted ourselves. I firmly believe that most - and possibly all - supporter bases would have collapsed into chaos under similar circumstances.

A big thank you to the mods. Can you possibly imagine the crap they have had to deal with this year.

Doss, LN Degenerate, Jab - thanks very much for acting as the shield.

Special thanks goes to those (and I won't name them) that flew the flag against idiocy the likes of which has not been seen on BigFooty.

Look at what we've done:

1) Player Sponsorship - We now sponsor four players; and the enthusiasm for it means we have to seriously consider a higher level of sponsorship. We literally put together thousands of dollars for the club - congratulations all....

2) Tanked - Can't tell you how pleased I am with this. We have something genuinely valuable out of an anonymous website; genuine community. If you have not attended one of these yet, I strongly encourage you to do so. I personally have made seven or eight genuine mates out of this.

Post your thoughts about the BigFooty Bombers; I think we've done incredibly well.

The mods have done a ****ing fantastic job. Was such a rough year for everyone but it would've been twice as difficult for them.

Despite all the bullshit I've really enjoyed visiting this site this year. The player sponsorship is incredible, would be ecstatic if we get a 5th player sponsored next year.

You guys are all great.

Here's to a bigger, better and less Danked 2014.

Echo these sentiments Jade.

It's been a shocking year, and I know that personally, my love for the game was tested beyond belief. It's a true testament to Essendon supporters as a hole and, in particular, the group we have on here.

And I will be at the next Tanked gathering. I would like to buy you a beer.

We've learnt a lot of things about human nature & the politics of football, but the most important thing that everyone now knows for certain-

Nothing can break the resolve of our club or supporters.

I expressed very similar sentiments when I closed the original ASADA mega thread a couple of months ago.

It's been a terrible year to be an Essendon supporter, without doubt. Aside from the joy of seeing the gritty determination of the players to get on with playing football in incredibly difficult circumstances, the only other redeeming feature as a supporter has been the sense of community that comes through on this forum. Well done to everyone on contributing to that, and I mean everyone too.

Jade has put it very eloquently, so I don't really need to add anything more to that.

The one little addition I will make is to acknowledge the mods we've lost this year, and it's been a brutal year in that sense- Yoda_, Kong, Sosa and, lastly, Tassieboy (who we lost only around two months ago) have all wound up duties on this board between the start of this year and now. All were a big part of why the Essendon board has been a positive place to be this year in many ways, despite the storm that surrounded our club.

Adding Kong, Sosa, Tassieboy and Yoda_ to this is spot on. These are the guys who have set the lead for us to follow, they made it easier for the remaining mods. I'm a bit of a token mod around here, but it's a pleasure to work along with the team that we have.

There are some really great posters on this board who I respect greatly, but I won't name them right now. To be honest, the posting here in general has been great. If you put any other board through the year that we've endured you would expect a lot less than what we've delivered.

Agreed Jade. I have only been on this forum since January 10 this year, and who could have known the shitstorm that was to erupt less than one month later.

Coming from Perth, I have never really had many friends who are Bombers supporters to talk footy with. It is for this reason that I am thankful I stumbled across this forum and in particular this board. So thanks to everyone, your input has helped me stay sane this year! I have big footy to thank for my serious drop in work productivity this year :)

Thanks to the mods, both past and present, you do an awesome job in a good natured and often humorous way!

Finally, thanks to my fellow Tanked guys, I can genuinely say you are all quality people and I am proud call a lot of you friends.

Cheers

Thanks again to all. I too was a newbie to this board and have really appreciated the interaction. Yes this really has been a shit year but having somewhere to go and talk about it has been great. No we don't always agree but that's life.

Look at the Adelaide board. Now look back to here.

It's an absolute credit to the posters and the mods that we're not embroiled in 17 different 15,000 post threads.

I'd also like to say as a newbie this board has been somewhat of a safe house to me this year.

So thanks to all the mods (past and present) and posters for making me feel welcome!

It's been a hard year as a supporter no doubt, but I love how it's made the supporters more united.

Looking forward to the start of the new year/season.

Yeah the player threads is what sets us apart from the other team boards. Constant updated sub-titles next to the player's name gives everyone a clear idea whats being discussed at the time. People new to the site can read back on past discussions etc..

As to the whole saga that engulfed us this year...it was amazing to see so many Essendon supporters rally behind our club on-line here at BF. Opposition fans were brutal in their attack on anyone who backed Hirdy, the players and the club... but we expected nothing less really.

Just goes to show what a loyal, committed bunch we all are to this club. Sure we didn't like what went on very much and the so called 'damage' it did to our 'brand', but in the end we copped our whack and paid a big price for the massive #### up.

Most of us were disappointed things turned out the way they did. But in the end, the way the club came forward and admitted mistakes made it easier to swallow.

We'll all cop the flack for years to come on BF no doubt... but that's life..that's footy..and in the end it's a just another reason for them all to hate us even more.

#### em all....doesn't make me love the EFC any less..not in the slightest.

Forever Essendon.

:)

Being an interstater, this was the primary reason for me joining a few years back and it is a decision I am glad I made. I wasn't the most frequent of posters but this season I found the board a safe haven. I didn't really have people hammering me about the saga but the media.... bloody hell. It's a quality place to lurk, and as time goes by I find myself lurking here more often.

This to me is part I am proudest of.

I firmly believe that most supporter bases could not have coped - we actually have out and out proof from some supporter bases (Carlton/Richmond/Melbourne etc) that they don't cope under extreme pressure.

It also tickles me no end that the other supporter bases work themselves up into an absolute frenzy over the fact that we haven't crumbled - pisses them off so much.

Not only that we haven't crumbled, that if anything our unity and support for the almighty EFC has increased. The outrage this provoked in the foamers was pretty much my favourite part of this whole saga (other than the unity it brought to this board and the EFC community.... :hearts: you guys (no homo))

Agreed - wanted to see us crumble, infighting, crying so badly.

F*** y'all.

Shit year both on a footy note and a personal one. This board has made it bearable, along with Adam Scott being a ****ing hero on the world stage

Yeah Australia seems to suck at everything at the moment.

Scott is handling his shit like a boss though.

In two weeks he'll be crowned World Champion and will have completed the triple crown (I hope)

As one of the guys that stood down as mod during the year (which was completely unrelated, for what it's worth), I can also say that the board was really easy to manage even as shit hit the fan.

That's a credit to all of the regulars on here.

On top of that, having Mod-ed for a long time, I know how much time and effort goes into it all so I think Doss, Jab and LN (I'll ever acknowledge "Degenerate") have done an amazing job to keep this place "normal" throughout the worst period in our club's history.

It was only the other day I was talking to a WCE supporter and of course (as they do here in Perth) he quickly brought up the Essendon scandal.

His line like so many others is " How can you have any respect left for Hird, Thompson and the club with what went on this year? How can keep supporting Essendon?"

My reply was " How did you keep supported your club a few years ago when a whole bunch of players were running around town taking pills, snorting god knows what and grinding the name of your great club into the ground..AND it seemed your coach and club management had no idea it was going on? "

It just amazes me so many people really believe it was all one big giant Lance Armstrong style doping program designed to cheat the system and turn our players into supermen.

"How could they not know they were doing something wrong?" He kept saying.

"Because it's just a simple case of Hird and other people in charge trusting two individuals with a job and not double/triple checking that they are doing that job correctly..just a massive stuff-up that will never be repeated again" ..I said.

It just got me thinking how Essendon supporters understood the situation at hand and largely dismissed the media avalanche that surrounded the club it self and continued to support the club... even though it was tough to read some of the crap that was written about us.

In the end, the whole sorry story has made us a better club and has made the fans stick together even more. We would of course rather it not have happened. But at least we can all sleep at night knowing the players stuck firm and stayed with us.

Unlike say WC fans who go to bed every night hoping they don't have yet another nightmare about their superstar captains swimming across rivers or..even worse.. leaving to join Carlton.
