Who's loss on the field in 2011 do you think would most effect our chances of back to back premierships ?
IMO I think we can cover all positions except that of Jolly. Brown held his own throughout the year but the loss of Jolly would be a disaster.

Probably Jolly. Unless something extraordinary happens with Wood. Although Wood has responded well to the number 1 ruck role in the past.

Cloke or Dawes might be hard to cover now that Anthony is gone. It would require Tarrant to come forward. On that without Tarrant we would be shaky at either end if we lost a KPP. That alone - during our window - justifies his recruitment.

Didak is also very very important as a midfielder but also as our leading goalkicker.

We have depth in midfield but losing anyone of Pendles or Swans quality would also hurt alot.

One out of the box, Travis Cloke.

I reckon Jolly's "importance" to us is slightly over rated, it's more his presence then his actual ruckwork or possessions around the ground, but I think we could still win the flag without him (not all season, just the finals).

As Cloke, is the only absolute clear marking forward we have who we can rely on week in, week out to take a top defender out of the game, and still get plenty of the ball himself. (Dawes hasn't proven himself "yet" over an entire season).

Chris Tarrant "knocks" a lot of players off the list, from Reid, N.Brown, even Dawes, and Krakouer gives us cover for any small who goes down also.

So my list in order;

1. Cloke
2. Pendlebury
3. Swan
4. Didak
5. Jolly

I think it'd be Pendles, closely followed by Jolly. The quality of his clearances are by far the best of our midfielders and we've lacked class when we've been without him in the past.
My order:

Pendles
Jolly
Swan
Cloke

dawes, cloke, brown. we can lose one of these but not two. Forward structure is such a tempremental thing..although as others have pointed out, tarrant is a great insurance policy..

Jolly and Ball by far I think. Very simplistic I know but first year with a decent #1 ruckman in our team and a genuine tough extractor and we go all the way.

Backline much the same as years gone by. Foward structure got a little tweak and the midfield players are roughly the same but with ball stuctured diff. giving us a substanitial improvement this year (I realise that all improved as well and that helps)

So I think Jolly and Ball would be the two.

Ball would be our biggest loss. It would throw our structure out so much, it would make a few players get more ball, be more accountable and that would stop our run.

You make a very good Case there and also miss his in and under work and also Tackling Pressure he has around Stoppages

I always tend to agree with you matty, and thats not gonna change for this topic , thats exactly the way I see it as well. With out Cloke in the forward line that would make Dawes our number one forward and he is not ready and good enough for that.

Jolly for sure. We don't have anyone who can replace him and take the other ruckman out of play. Jolly demands respect when he plays and knows where to run and play as a dangerous forward. When someone like Wood plays the other ruckman do what Jolly does and becomes a damaging player against us. Add to that Jolly's tapwork is strong and eliminates a lot of opposition clearances. We could play without him but we could play witout anyone.

There are two people we can least effectively replace. Darren Jolly and Travis Cloke. There are no losses to the team that would effect our chance of winning as much as those two. No question.

Jolly no doubt.

Trav...agree he should be hard to replace, but iirc, we won both, including belting St Kilda, when he got rubbed out for two weeks for that silly tap on the back of someone's head.

Think Caf took FF we just played a shorter forward line and we looked really good, played v well.

Think that's why Jolly is No 1 in this regard...his replacement would perform at a significantly lower level and affect overall performance outcome more than any other single player who needed replacing.

Unless Wood comes along in leaps and bounds then Jolly would be the biggest loss. Our depth in this department ain't great at this stage. Thankfully Jolly has experienced great longevity over the past 5 years, so the signs are probably good in that area.

Anywhere else on the field I think we can cover, but I reckon we would be a much lesser team without Pendlebury. Our midfield would still be strong without him but would be lacking that touch of class that makes it an exceptional midfield.

We also have Ceglar and Keeffe who can play Ruck on the Senior List

A strength of this team is that no one player is irreplaceable. My only concern is that we lose 3-4 at the one time - particularly our talls. Oh - and if we lose Ball, we don't have O'Bree's inside work to fall back on.

My big hope for this year is that a couple of our young blokes take the next step and really start to put some pressure on our 1st-choice 22.

Jolly/Pendles/Cloke/Swan.

We wouldn't want to lose any of the above for an extended period or a number of them at once.

This.

Jolly is our only ruckman with physical presence. If we had of gone into GF 1 with Josh Fraser as no.1 ruck, St kilda would have been premiers.

We can't afford for Leon Davis to get injured again..
need him firing this season. He's been looking good pre-season.
Lets hope Brad Dick's shoulder holds up too. He is the key this year.
