Bill Gates to stop spam e-mails

I just heard today that bill gates is going to eliminate spam emails within 2 years.

All i have to say about that is, its bloody time.

well it is obvious that there will always be spams out there and even if he can some how stop it, within a week or two they will be back again. well at least it will stop them for a little while.

Wasn't there some company late last year that claimed it had software that would eliminate absolutely 100% of all spam and virus filled email? Can't remember what they were called, but heard on the BBC.

No one can STOP spam. It is a stupid Bill Gates attempt to get attention.

I don't exactly know what his plans are.. but there are different types of spam.

SendMail in linux/unix etc already has a function to block certain SPAM. When receiving the email, it automatically sends an email back to the forwarding email to check if it is valid. If it isn't, which is what they used to do when sending SPAM, then SendMail would not forward it onto the user.

Other than that, how can Microsoft decide what IS and what ISNT Spam?

They can't. They might be able to set up their Microsoft servers to do a similar thing to sendmail, but thats already been done hasn't it..

Its just not like Microsoft to take ideas, use them as their own and sell them to the gullable public

Microsofts plan isn't what you described, which is useless in stopping spam. From what I recall, and I can't be bothered looking it up is that they intend to put some process into email generation that means an email takes a bit of time to produce, maybe 10 seconds an email (the time is independent of the processing power of the computer) that makes spam generation unviable. This process generates some cryptographic signature that gets sent along with the mail. Incoming mail boxes would then reject any email lacking the signature.

This of means everyone would have to use the microsoft system.

It aint gonna happen.
