Billy Bragg, your thoughts?

Perhaps the most consistently amusing and socially relevant singer songwriter of the last 25 years. His back catalogue is superb, from his anti fascist rants like Accident Waiting to Happen, his rage against domestic violence, Levi Stubbs Tears, his work with unfinished Woody Guthrie tracks, to his modern reworking of Beethoven's 9th Symphony Ode to Joy, very few artists can boast the consistently high quality output of Bill's.
A thinker too, his book, The Progressive Patriot, whilst largely based on concepts of modern British patriotism has parallels here, one only needs to look at the flag wearing 'my country right or wrong' idiots that seem to have popped up in modern times locally.
Maybe I'm biased, maybe I spent to many years in England but for me Billy Bragg is a true hero.

i'm guessing most people on here would know him from the mermaid avenue albums, but his other stuff (england half english, workers playtime, william bloke, etc.) is just as entertaining

I have all of his older stuff, Talking with the Taxman..., Lifes a riot..., Back to Basics, etc.

The guy is brilliant. Always stayed true to himself and his beliefs, even if he is more left wing than me, (I consider myself left wing, just not as far as him), I have always admired his integrity.

The funny thing is, despite being a Woody Guthrie fan, a Wilco fan and a Billy Bragg fan, I have never listened to the Mermaid Avenue albums.

I will get there.
