Player Watch Billy Frampton

We shouldn't "just accept the outcome" because of the optics. I don't think anyone in the broader footy landscape besides mad anti-Pies nuffies think Frampton should have been suspended.

There will be some who will publicly support the club's position, but there will be others who will go after the club in a big way if we blame Mihocek.

And it will be pointless. Zero chance it gets overturned. There's only negatives from doing so.
Clubs like Geelong, GC and Richmond have backed their players to the point of looking like 🤡 🤡 🤡.
Frampton has done nothing wrong other than a football act. From this point he will be targeted by some supporters. He is a Collingwood player and must be supported. This is fundamental to a quality club. I would be disappointed if the club fails.
Checkers 😪 .

You're not failing your player if you pull him aside and say 'Billy, we don't think you've done anything wrong. But we also think there is zero chance an appeal is successful'.

No, but what does that mean for future free agents?

The optics of the club not backing their player can only hurt.

Regardless of your thoughts on the incident itself, there is no chance in hell they are going to overturn a suspension when someone literally broke their neck.

If the club gears up for a tribunal fight by basically blaming Mihocek, which is their only way to contest it, then it will turn into a very ugly circus. It could cause further distress to Checkers and his family and give media talking heads a chance to go afer the club for being insensitive.

It would be the PR equivalent of a prisoner smearing himself in sh*t in a futile attempt to stop the guards dragging him off to solitary confinement.

It will just be a pointless exercise in self-harm. Just accept the outcome.
That's a poor excuse for letting one of your players get screwed. If Checkers was asked about the incident and was shown the footage I'd be stunned if he blamed Billy. I'd also be shocked if the club fighting hard to clear Billy's name would cause him the slightest angst. Suggesting Checkers contributed to the tackle causing him to hurt his neck is in no way impugning his character. Why would it cause any issue when it is demonstrably true?

Using your logic we should have allowed Maynard to cop a suspension and miss the grand final in 2023 after ending Brayshaw's career.

Look, I'll meet you halfway that if Frampton himself makes a big deal out of it and it's clear he would feel aggrieved if we didn't appeal it, then we would be obligated to back him.

But only after telling him there's zero chance of success and it's a bad idea.

Suspension talk aside

Billy has been sublime this season. Yesterday he was just a rock down back and won so many contests.

His decision making has been top shelf also. Which use to be a slight knock against him
I honestly think he's been our 2nd best player this season

No, because there was a clear, ultimately successful path to appeal for Maynard. I myself argued endlessly on here against oppo halfwits about the Maynard incident.

There is no successful appeal path here.

*Edit I realise Maynard was sent straight to tribunal. But point stands.

Unfortunately this is true. There was no rule against smother attempts knocking out players with the Maynard one. Whereas with this one, there have been previous incidents with far less severe end results get suspended

Darcy has returned to his made of glass days. We would be F***ed without billy.
We are about to find out if frampton doesn't get his suspension overturned. With no Maynard to play as a tall defender and howes recovering, we may have a 35 yrs defender and a first gamer as our KPD against port.

For mine there is only zero chance if we don’t appeal. I didn’t see any carelessness in the tackle and surely Brody slipping into the tackle should be taken into account.

Who cares about Checkers and his family?! If he has any sense of fair play, which I am sure he does, he would defend Frampton's actions not come out in the media and criticise them. What happened was an unavoidable accident which actually attracted a Collingwood free kick. I hope Collingwood exhausts every possible avenue in defending this ridiculous penalty.

Mihocek lost balance and had himself in an awkward position driving head first into Framptons stomach, what was Frampton meant to do in this situation?

Dangerfield is notorious for picking the ball up from the ground and driving his head into players to get a free and players have to stand there with their arms up in the air, it looks ridiculous.

They're both flankers, third talls at best. We need to replace 2 tall defenders plus one mid.

Can't see a world where Puncher doesn't play, unless he's totally useless. He's on a 6 month contract, might as well try him.
We don't really have another option though. They might have to play Puncher but he looks pretty average so far

Think I'd prefer Ryan and Puncher as both have less time to prove themselves before contracts end.
There's 3 weeks where we'll need 2, just too bad that Noah Howes got injured too.
I wouldn't play Puncher on exposed form but we might have to
