Player Watch Billy Frampton

I can’t see how they could deem this as high contact when the player who was injured initiated contact by going low and head butting the other player in the stomach.Frampton was in a no win situation. What was he supposed to do,dematerialise to another spot?

We don't really have another option though. They might have to play Puncher but he looks pretty average so far
It doesn't really matter who we play. We are at a stage where we are better off losing games and getting a better draft pick. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel player-wise and not going to make finals. With Moore and Frampton missing and Howes out, Puncher will get a game.

I may be wrong, but the vision appears to show that Brody's neck was already at a precarious angle due hitting Billy's leg? This was well before Checkers was deposited on the ground.
If so, this would suggest the damage was done because of Checkers slipping rather than Billy tackling incorrectly. Was Billy not meant to brace for impact with his leg anywhere in the contest? This all happened in a split second!

All up it it was an awful accident. Checkers was my favourite player when he left and I' m gutted about what happened to him. 🥺 Very sad for Billy too as Checkers is a good mate of his and he was just doing what his role demanded.

Think I'd prefer Ryan and Puncher as both have less time to prove themselves before contracts end.
There's 3 weeks where we'll need 2, just too bad that Noah Howes got injured too.
Ryan fills me with trepidation. It might be unfair but Parker seems a better Maynard replacement and Mcstay back for Frampton.

So we don't defend Frampton for fear of offending Mihichek and family! What a load of crap! I am sure he is already on Frampton's side in this anyway.

We don't launch a useless appeal based on the premise that a guy who just broke his neck was the one at fault (which is what we would have to argue because the tackler has a duty of care, you can't go in with some bullsh*t 'he slipped' defence).

The pointlessness of the appeal is the main reason not to do it, the ugly PR is just a secondary reason not do it (and not just PR, having some basic respect for a former player).

I am sure there is a good chance Checkers is on the side of Frampton not being suspended (although we don't actually know this). But that doesn't mean he would be on the side of being publicly blamed for causing his own injury.

Anyway, the nuffies quoting my posts can kick and scream all they want but it's not going to change the fact that Frampton is going to miss 3 games. It's done and an appeal won't work.

It might have to be one of those situations where we say **** it, we got him for a reason, let's just play him. He looks out of his depth though

He fractured a vetebrae - he did not break his neck. Let's extract the emotional language from the scenario.

All the 'nuffies' are trying to ensure that justice occurs not a totally unjustified 3 week suspension. I would be horrified if Collingwood does not appeal this suspension. If you don't think an appeal will work, fine, but any club with its player's welfare as a strong concern would appeal this in a heartbeat.

There will be some who will publicly support the club's position, but there will be others who will go after the club in a big way if we blame Mihocek.

And it will be pointless. Zero chance it gets overturned. There's only negatives from doing so.

You're not failing your player if you pull him aside and say 'Billy, we don't think you've done anything wrong. But we also think there is zero chance an appeal is successful'.
Nonsense. You have no idea what the chances of it being overturned are. You’re just being melodramatic

It can't. Or at least it can only be reduced to zero. Our only argument is that it didn't constitute a reportable offence because Billy didn't breach his duty of care to Brody in the tackle. If that fails, then careless, high contact, severe impact is the only option. And that's a minimum of 3.
What about Brody’s duty of care to himself? Billy can’t be responsible for his opponent driving in to him head first.

For those that recognise how Checkers leads to the ball bracing for a tackle, he dives down all the time, I remember discussing this with friends and even saying one day he will do serious damage!! Frampton is a result of how scared and wokey the AFL has become.

Now for the rant, how that ****head Pickett gets a fine only when a player injuries himself (again) if just FN unbelievable!!!

As for who will replace Frampton? you may as well play Ryan, Jaith or Puncher and either let them hang themselves or show the footy world they are ready to be regulars

Another 2 losses in the next few weeks will have us at that tipping point of no return, meaning TANK for Picks!

Mcstay has to go back and West has to come in.
If Cochran’s available I’d prefer to get a look at him or Howes at this point. Play West head of Membrey or one of Buller/McStay/Pods

Edit: Oh I see they’re both injured. Smit?

lol wtf is this bolded crap

Regardless of your thoughts on the incident itself, there is no chance in hell they are going to overturn a suspension when someone literally broke their neck.

If the club gears up for a tribunal fight by basically blaming Mihocek, which is their only way to contest it, then it will turn into a very ugly circus. It could cause further distress to Checkers and his family and give media talking heads a chance to go afer the club for being insensitive.

It would be the PR equivalent of a prisoner smearing himself in sh*t in a futile attempt to stop the guards dragging him off to solitary confinement.

It will just be a pointless exercise in self-harm. Just accept the outcome.
What’s with the “victim blaming” bullshittery? You can’t just ignore the actions a player took in an incident just because he got hurt. It’s there for everyone to see that Brody lead with his head and his momentum shifted Billy backwards in the tackle.

Laying the blame squarely on Frampton for this is a major step backwards for the league in its push for players to stop playing for high contact free kicks, and lets not pretend that’s not what Checkers was trying to do.
