My 14 year old daughter was recently tackled playing under 16s, tackled as she picked up the ball in the goal square.
She sustained these injuries:-
-Broken upper tibia, the bone was literally punched away.
-Broken lower femur
-Broken fibula
-ACL reco
-Torn meniscus
-LCL snapped and replaced with a donor ligament
-MCL, same as above
-Torn calf muscle
-Cartilage damaged
-Severe bone bruising

During some the examinations and x-rays, I asked about the bones themselves in regards to density. No problems at all.

So, do I go after the girl that tackled her? No. It was a fair tackle, my daughter actually gave away a free kick.
Was she trampled by the tackler? Nope.
Do I blame the opposition? Nope. In fact, their trainer came over to check on my daughter.
Did the tackler cause those injuries on purpose? No way.
She recently had a six hour op to fix the damage and she may not play footy for about 18 months, if at all again.
My daughter is a 14 year old girl who was playing a contact sport and got severely injured, but there is no way I can point the blame at anyone.

Did Billy intend to break Brody's neck? Hopefully not.
Did Brody intend to have his neck broken when he lead with his head? Hopefully not.

It's a contact sport that is pretty clean these days, this was purely a football incident. Did you see any Dees players remonstrating with any Pies players? Nope, they knew there was nothing in it.
If the suspension is upheld, I'm not going to bother with this game anymore, total waste of time.
Jesus! Thats some serious carnage, hope she’s okay and her rehab is progressing well

OMFG!
That is literally the worst set of (non-fatal) injuries I’ve ever heard from a single incident in any sport.
Very best wishes to your daughter in her hopefully full recovery.

Was the tackler a fully loaded road train, because feck me that’s a long list of injuries for a tackle.

No one is to blame. It was just a freak incident that ended in a bad outcome unfortunately.

Checkers lost his footing and ducked forward to evade the tackle. Frampton had milliseconds to react to Checkers' movements toward his direction.

The club has until 11am tomorrow morning to decide whether to lodge an appeal or not.

Accidents in footy happen. Checkers slipped, nothing Billy could do about that. If Billy get three weeks for that I worry about the state of our game and the lack of commonsense by those who administer it.

AFL are just Scared of Getting Sued by Players who had Concussions

A really basic question - what exactly should Frampton have done differently?
The argument will be that he shouldn't have pulled Checkers head first into the turf, which he may have. I don't know how realistic it is to think he could have stopped it, or whether you can tell whether Frampton dragged him forward or it was Checkers' momentum - however, I'll be surprised if he gets off

With the fortunes and worth of the team hitting rock bottom and football penalties achieving new lows, tuning out of the game is going to be relatively easy in the second half of the year. What really hits home with this incident is the close relationship between victim and offender, the total absence of any intent to hurt and the obvious remorse and concern shown by Frampton. These new fancy, hair splitting rules where you have a bit of this and a bit determining the length of the penalty look like a crock of shit in a scenario such as this one.

I don’t think the club will appeal the ban. I think everyone's is so relieved Mihocek is going to be okay, that they won’t want to press the issue.
As much as they would in other circumstances, I believe they’ll just cop the ban.

Just another in a long line of suspensions that are supposedly going to ruin the game. Meanwhile players adapt and adjust. It wasn't malicious, but it does look to me like Billy did drop his weight back to pull him to ground and pulled him head first into the turf.

its great Mihocek will be ok but this is wrong decision unless its come from Frampton.

Interesting that Greg Swann said on 360 last night that Billy made a second action driving Checkers in to ground

Prejudicial comments?

Can be easily proven by the footage that the momentum of Checkers caused Billy to lose his footing, resulting in the second action. Swann is throwing the AFL’s case out to the public to try to gain support, but when you have the majority of the public and AFL media saying he doesn’t deserve a ban after looking at it with their own eyes, the “second action” argument doesn’t hold much weight.

What helps Billy is that a lot of the media landscape (outside of Ralph) is saying there was no malice in the tackle and he should get off.

It doesn’t always work out but for the most part, having the backing of the footy public helps a lot.

Second action looked to be an attempt to roll / turn Mihocek, which is what the AFL now wants. Momentum and trying to fight the tackle meant that didn’t occur

Regarding the "second action", when looking at it in slow motion, I think Billy actually tried to roll Checkers onto his own body, but Checkers is a very big unit, who is powerfully propelling forward with his neck already at an awkward angle. Not Billy's fault that this was the trajectory of Checkers !!! It's nothing but unfortunate physics!
I do hope the club contests the penalty.
AFL would be well advised to issue stronger penalties for players purposefully trying to barrel through a contest with their heads.🙄

BTW, I love Checkers and am wishing him a full recovery 🙏

The club is challenging the ban.

Apologies Ponsford. Am so riled up about this, that I neglected to see that you had provided this important information!!
I hope the club engage an expert to detail the physics involved!! 😉

Billy is a pretty fair player imo - Checkers 100% looked to lean forward and initiate the contact. Whether he was trying to draw a free kick, well Checkers is the only one that can answer that.

Hopefully Billy is holding up ok as in sure it wouldn't be a nice feeling knowing that a premiership teammate is injured
