Charged again. White was lucky even for a clean skin.

Slater facing third suspension

August 07, 2006 MELBOURNE fullback Billy Slater faces a third suspension of the season after he was charged with grade-one striking in Storm's weekend win against Wests Tigers.

Slater, who has missed nine matches through suspension already in 2006, will miss two games if he enters an early plea or if he fights the charge at the judiciary and is found guilty.

Storm teammate Brett White was also charged by the NRL match review committee, in his case for a grade-one careless high tackle against Jamaal Lolesi.

The prop will escape a ban if he makes an early guilty plea, however.

Newcastle captain and halfback Andrew Johns heads the list of other players charged.

Johns was charged with striking opposite number Josh Lewis in the Knights' win over Sydney Roosters yesterday, but he can escape a suspension with an early guilty plea.

Tigers five-eighth Shane Elford was handed a grade-one striking charge, while South Sydney captain Peter Cusack, like White, was charged with making a grade-one careless high tackle.

Elford and Cusack can both escape suspension with an early guilty plea.

Stupid and completley un-necassary act.

Hopefully he will curb this new found trend of getting suspended cause his a damn good player and the storm look a much better side with him in.

We should have given Webster Slater's money and sent Billy packing. Pathetic defender and the worst tackler I have seen. I'd probably rather Turner too. Time to hide Billy out on a wing.

What rubbish. Slater is a far superior player to Turner or Webster and has been unlucky this year with suspensions ...

Is a damn shame to see him suspended again this year :thumbsd:

Unlucky? Try reckless and stupid. His major deficiencies are finally coming out for all to see. No one will ever doubt his attacking ability, but in defense he is simply a liability.

Yep it was reckless and stupid to a lesser extent, but i'll just say that the game is becoming a joke when silly 'love taps' like that (admittedly to the head) are penalized and result in suspensions for 2 weeks.

Slater's been terrific in defence since he came back I found.

Show's up the deficiencies of the tribunal I think. One bad suspension early on and you end up paying for it later even when the contact was negligable.

i'd trade Slater for Scott Prince seeing how Scot Hill is going over to England next year it would be a good trade. if that happens just hope Inglish doesnt get injured. but I guess Geyer can also play full back.

Eh?

Why would we want Prince when we have Cooper Cronk who is already 10 times the half back that Prince is? And why would we get Geyer to play full back when we have Greg Inglis, the best full back in the game? (or at least soon will be).

No trades in the NRL so it is not going to happen. Besides, Prince hasn't even commenced his contract with the Titans, he is about their only halfback and they already have 2-3 fullbacks.

You can't trade in the NRL! LOL. Plus, Scott Prince has been signed by the Titans anyway.

As for Billy Slater....................... wannabe tough guy who should concentrate on trying to play footy again. You can't blame the judiciary, he should know better.
