I was going to start a reply with Wedgies are amazing...

But those double entendres!

Seriously though in my top 5 birds of want to see in the wild and get a great picture of for the collection.

Saw this at Healesville Sanctuary many years back and the Wedgetail was easily the highlight of the show.

Do you take pics with just your phone or do you have a ubeaut camera?

I have a 2016 Nikon D500 with a 300mm zoom lens.

So a great camera/lens for walkabout wildlife but not in the realm of the newer expensive cameras.

I've only been dabbling with photography for around 6 weeks so it's been a crash course in point and shoot and work out the mistakes after 😂

This is one of those photos where it's hard to know if it's better to not crop to keep the background and don't see the bird up close, or crop for a closer up of the bird but lose the background that helps make the context of the bird as it was viewed.

Awww wow! Crimson Rosella yeah?

We get the pale headed Rosellas around our place! Will try and get a pic when I hear them

Got any pics of red-tailed black Cockatoos?

I always hear them but never spot them. Fabulous looking birds

I don't have any Reds yet, I have some Yellows from a few weeks back.

Male has the red eye/black beak, Female has the black eye/white beak

Was very early and the light was poor so not the best capture of them. So chasing some better ones of them

Man I need to get a new camera.

Doesn't have to be new, some of the old ones still do a pretty good job at a lower price.

Added if people just want to take nice snaps and have some zoom ability without lugging around expensive cameras and heavy zoom lens the Bridge Cameras can be a good option.

The baby ducks have spawned at my local pond. Have watched their parents grow, pair up and now get to watch the next generation waddle around. A pelican also moved in, his eyes carry the dark intentions of duckling consumption.

He was super friendly though lol

That looks prehistoric up close! Great capture.

Haven't tried much of the portrait type photos myself but I did try it on a Brolga on the weekend.

My experience with the Emu was I was moving alongside some bushes trying to stay out of view of a bird I was trying to find. Turned a corner of the bushes and 3ft in front of me was an Emu looking straight at me.

Went into full Homer Simpson mode as fast as I could back into the cover of the bushes :tearsofjoy:

Ratites (emus, ostriches, cassowaries, kiwis) are probably the most dinosaur-like birds currently around. Flightless, strong legs for running, flat breastbone, small wings. But the consensus seems to be that ratites evolved from theropods that had teeth rather than beaks. So, for example, velociraptor skulls would be quite different from that of emus.

But I digress. Carry on!
