Andy D has hinted that Carlton and Richmond will be having less blockbuster games next year as they no longer deserve it. (i.e have become too easy to beat)

Whilst I'm all for a more randomized draw and playing the like of the Aints, Dogs and Dees twice for a change it seems strange they are all of a sudden changing it despite relatively good attendances for our blockbuster matches this year. (especially considering the crapness of the aforementioned sides and the redevelopment of the G)

Its just a shame we didn't have the same luxury afforded to us when we sucked and we had to front up to Carlton and Essendon twice every year whilst they were cheating the cap and finishing well up the ladder

Carlton deserve blockbusters no matter where they are positioned, as do the tigers. We are talking tradition and there was a time that our beloved pies were pretty much screwed but the afl stuck with us.

No team deserves to play games classed as 'blockbusters' if they can't fill the stadium.

Carlton V Richmond got about 30,000 from memory? I know it has a lot to do with both teams form of late and I'm sure they'll have 'blockbusters' once they get some winning form, but while they haven't got any, they shouldn't be taking up prime game slots.

Yep it is nothing to do with ladder position, all to do with ability to pull a crowd. When we were down we kept on showing up and generating big crowds.

The AFL structure the draw to acheive max attendences, if their supporters had shown up they would keep there games.

I'm with you Lokyer24. It is fantastic to be involved with so many blockbusters- revenue etc..

However, what a lot of opposition supporters fail to realise (esp when discussing our draw) is that because of our crowd pulling ability, we are pitted against the top sides twice a year (e.g- Essendon, Brisbane, Adelaide).

I'm sure they realise - they just fail to mention... ;)

Not proven that attendances overall would be highest because certain teams play each other twice every year.

Those teams fans will turn up irrespective of who they play.

It might maximise attendances (and more to the point reserved or premium seating) for the clubs involved but not the competition as a whole

If they cant fill the stadium its not a blockbuster.
