I'm having bloodtests tomorrow and I'm ********ting myself...being tested for over 9 things, glandular and some coleac disease (I dont know what it is and I dont want to know unless it shows up).

Anyway, what are your thoughts on them? Last one I had was about 5 years ago and I collapsed...so I'm not too happy at the moment. :(

I have a phobia about needles, so totally freak out when I have to have one, my last blood test 4 years ago picked up a medical problem & I was supposed to have a blood test every year to see if it's progressing, yeah right I don't think so.

Ooh, please don't scare me anymore!

I went to a doctor a little while ago after nearly three months of being sick, and also because I have chronic sleeping problems. She suggested I get a blood test done so they could see if there was any medical cause behind my sleeping problems. Thing is, it's not my normal doctor, and I'm not too keen on getting something done at a clinic (in Highpoint!) I know nothing about, on top of the fact that I HATE needles. :(

I might go to my normal doctor at home and see what she thinks.

A horrible necessity of life. :(

Take A Nurofen Plus about an hour before the tests.

Put a Red "Allens" frog in your mouth just before the tests and BITE HARD!

The flavour and the strength of biting will get you through the test!:)

See normally I'd skip it, but my Dr is really worried, which scares me cos he's really laid-back. The last 3 months of my life have been a joke, I felt nausias (sp?) ALL day EVERY day the whole time, and it's hell.

But it's like waging Uni - once it's in your head......ah ******** it I'm not going! :D

:o

I'm pretty okay with blood tests. I had one the other week checking iron levels, glandular and a thyroid thingo. No news so it's all good, yay!

edit: good luck tomorrow leonmagic :)

No it isn't, only something that affects me & I have no intention of saying what I have here.

I know the feeling! :p

But that sounds like the three months where I was sick. Always nauseous, vomiting, dizzy, sleepiness, aching....my roommate thought I might have had glandular fever, but the doctor didn't say anything about it. But it's completely f***ed up the last semester of uni.

At any rate, good luck. Hope it's not too bad. This thread has inspired me, I really should go get that test done. :o

No probs, if it affected anyone else I would have the tests, but seeing it only affects me, I don't bother, no news is good news. ;)

I am now...but needles and me as a youngster...I have actually believed I could hide under a pillow when I was 10...and I gace it a good try...wagged school for the tetanus shots...then I was forced to go and got the 32 needle salute(little gun thing with 32 small needles) ..dentist  I was in a bit of pain from his continual scraping and he said I will be back..I am chatting to the young nurse and he walks in quietly stands next to me and says ''ok look at me'' turn my head and there is the biggest needle(well I thought so) and it felt like it going in...a lot of years spent not needing aneedle until my thyroid acted up and have had 4 bloodtests this year and I was surprised at the ease I felt.

Not being sarcastic(makes a change I know) but that IMO is a healthy attitude to have. How many people do you know hear bad news from the doctor and go to pieces?

I am like you mantis in that if I feel fine I will continue to be fine....and I am sure you know your body and when something is serious and something is your body adjusting

Just don't let them take 14 jabs to get the blood out of you, as happened with me one time. Now I have a bit of a phobia about needles.

If u have chronic sleeping problems get some Melatonin... From Golden Glow in QLD... Great stuff... My better half couldn't sleep basically at all until she got some.. It takes a couple of weeks to get used to... Great stuff...

Leon, half your problem is in the mind, you are really working yourself up. Make sure you are well hydrated and look away.

Most people probably do themself an injury on a weekly basis that is more painful than having a needle, but the anticipation is what freaks you out.

It's more the fact that they are slowly taking blood out of you that makes it cringeworthy. Draining me like a vampire would. Had one about 6 months ago and was quite dizzy for about 10 minutes, so they gave me a room to lay down in. Insisted I was fine but they were insistent on it.

Yep, I go in there not looking at the needle and basically don't feel anything.

If you think about it, it makes it worse. I try to have a conversation with the nurse about anything and she normally is done by the time I'm thinking the needle is going in my arm.

I'm not scared of them but I find this takes my mind off of what they're doing.
