My Mum was about to start the mowing, when she found a syringe. It is on a piece of cardboard, and the syringe is covered in plastic and sticky tape.

You drug users who dump your syringes where you feel like are a disgrace, and I hope you end up dead, and quickly. How many other syringes in our yard will their be that we have not seen yet?

A friend of mine died last Sunday from an overdose. And while some people may think she deserved it because of the lifestyle she chose, it's still a very sad thing for her family and friends.

I don't condone hard drug taking, and I'm certainly disgusted by the lowlifes who leave their crap around where it can harm others.

This is the reason I support injecting rooms. We can't stop people who want to take drugs, but we can lessen the dangers to the public by controlling it.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I really am. It is just that I hate people who leave their syringes dumped on the streets, or a front yard, or a beach for innocent people to step on. I think we all know what can happen to people if they step on a syringe.

At the local footy ground that I live near, their is a bin behind the club rooms for people to put their syringes after they finish with them. I just wish that this syringe had been put in that bin.

She normally does the mowing, and me and my brother will rake the grass, pick the grass up, put it into a plastic bag, and dump the grass in our large bag in the back yard. The bag man comes and collects it every month.

I don't make her do the mowing. But, if my mum didn't do it, nobody would, unless we got someone to do it for us. It is a job that I hate with a passion, and I would rather pay someone to do it for us. My mum does not want me to spend my money on such things. It is hard work. We have a back yard, a front yard, the nature strip, and we have another yard at the side of our house. I know my brother feels the same way when it comes to doing this job.

I doubt in medical terms, you will find a disease called Drug addiction.


And, I would like you to say that comment of yours to someone who has got HIV, because they stood on a syringe. A syringe that should not have been dumped in the first place. I don't think they would be too pleased to help the addicted person, do you? They are going to die an early death, because some loser decided to dump their syringe for someone to step on. If you stood on a syringe in your own yard, and got HIV as a result, I doubt you would feel like helping that person. Maybe you would, but I doubt it.
 
People who take drugs... thats their choice, but it's unfair to take away the choices of those inocent people who are pricked by needles.

WEll I would Actually think you would feel the exact opposite! If I stood on a Siringe I WOULD Try and help them! Do you know why? Because You would know how it feel's to step on a seringe therefore should you do sometihng about it? Or do you want other people to go through the pain you went through? If you we're hurt that much would you just sit there with hatred? I wouldn't! I would make sure that it dosen't happen to anybody else! And the way to do that is to help them!! Because then they will keep leving them around? Why is it that everything must be solved through violence and Hatred?

My point is that their is no excuse for dumping syringe in the yard of someone else, or anywhere else where a person could step on it. No excuse.
 
First of all, drug addiction is not a disease or medical condition. It is a lifestyle.

This is a very complicated issue, because there is no simple solution. On one hand, it is illegal and morally wrong to let these people take drugs, but on the other hand it's inhumane to let them die and put others at risk by not having injecting rooms.

Personally, I think we need them. they would use them, it would keep the users and public at less risk, and woul dmake for a better society.

I empathize to some degree with the users, but in a cold, hard, and stark reality, it is their fault, and they brought it upon themselves.

Condolences Mandy5, it must be tough to lose someone in those circumstances.

I am about to do some mowing in Dandenong...I hope I don't stumble upon what you did Play On.

I hate to sound like an arrogant prick, but I think that instead of pampering these druggies, they should all be put into padded rooms for a few weeks, and go cold turkey. Injecting rooms, all it does is make it safer, but DOES NOT get rid of the problem in the first place.
 
There's no excuse for poor needle hygiene.

But as for whether addicts have choice of not ... well, it's probably not as simple as some of you would think.

People get into drugs for all sorts of reasons. And they usually start with something as "harmless" as a few drinks here and there. Addiction is one of those things that sneaks up on you. And it's ususally got you by the balls before you even know it.

Once you have become an addict you are in the grip of a two-fold problem. You can call it a "disease" if you like. A more judgemental person might prefer to regard it as a state of sin.

But whatever label you put on it ... it's a two-fold problem ...

It's a PHYSICAL ALLERGY coupled with a MENTAL OBSESSION.

The PHYSICAL part of it means that once you have become an addict it only takes ONE drug to trigger off a binge. An addict may be clean and sober and feeling allright. Then a friend might say, "Let's go up the pub for A DRINK OR TWO". So the addict goes to the pub, has a drink or two with the friend ... the friend goes home ... but the addict has set off the craving. So next thing you know, the addict has a few more drinks, meets up with someone who got some smoking dope, has a couple of bongs, starts feeling pretty good and then, next thing you know, he's on the blower to his dealer trying to score some smack. Within a couple of days he's climbing through some poor bastard's window to steal the video machine.

And it all started from going to the pub for a DRINK OR TWO.

The addict is PHYSICALLY ALLERGIC to the first drink or drug. The rest is beyond their control.

So the addict is faced with a choice ... once they know the score ...

To choice is: to use the FIRST drink or drug ... or NOT to use the first drink or drug. It seems a simple choice. Life over death. Good over evil. Sanity over madness.

And yet, addicts keep on making the wrong choice .... day after day after day.

Why?

Well, that's where the MENTAL OBSESSION kicks in. Addicts are not sane people. Their insanity wins out.

Insanity is making the same mistakes and expecting different results.

Did you know that an addict can stay clean for YEARS and YEARS ... and yet, they are still an addict. And an addict who has not used any drug for several years, can trigger the whole addiction scenario off simply by having a social drink at Christmas.

I haven't used for nearly 6 years. But I can guarantee to you that if I have a social drink on Christmas Day, I'll be lying in a gutter in my own vomit by New Year ... either that or in jail.

GUARANTEED.

So why would an addict CHOOSE that?

To use the first drink or drug KNOWING that the result would be misery.

ANSWER: because of the MENTAL OBSESSION ... this belief that, in spite of all the previous evidence in their life ... somehow it is going to be different this time. In other words, the addict has decided to make the same mistakes and expect different results.

INSANITY.

I guess, whether you dispose of your syringes appropriately or not will probably have a lot to do with how out of it you are at the time ... and that is really a bit of a lottery. When you're in active addiction (as distinct from recovery) there are some days when you'll have your act together and other days when you won't ... depending on what you're using and how much of it you're getting. I don't think I've ever dropped a syringe in the street or on the beach or in someone's backyard ... but it's possible I might have. When you're an addict in full flight, you really don't think about it. All you're thinking about is getting stoned.

Sorry ...

But that's the truth.

And I'm sorry I didn't die, Play On.
I found RECOVERY instead.

Ah, well ... at least as long as I'm in recovery I won't be dropping needles in your garden. So let's be thankful for that at least.
