At face value we lose if it's Gibbs and 23 for Lyons and 13. However, we may have bigger plans for 13. So take a hit in one trade and make like bandits with another.
Eg. Lose Gibbs and 23
Gain Lyons, Marchbank, Stewart, McKenna (13 for GWS players)

AND KEEP 5!
Sold.

Isn't he a restricted free agent? If so, then the Dockers can chose to match our offer and force us to trade for him. Becomes a much less appealing prospect then.

Then we let them.

If they want to keep him against his will, on 1.2mil or more per season, it'll hurt them far more than not getting him hurts us.

And to those who think we should trade for him now to avoid missing out later (I think there's been a few different folks suggesting that) - I'd rather take Pick 5 this year and Pick 3-6 next year, and risk missing out on Fyfe, than to burn two very good draft picks for a bloke we could potentially get for free.

As the club has said, we're building for sustained success. Getting someone like Nat Fyfe would have to be IN ADDITION to our draft strategy, not instead of.

Really?!? You're comparing Lyons to Graham and then Sloane to Gibbs?

Lyons did play 20 games for a Top 8 side. If it wasn't for a lowball offer from the Crows, he wouldn't even be available or talked about.

FWIW, and I love Gibba, 13/Lyons/Grigg for Gibbs/55 would do me.

And further, 5/13/Graham might just get you 2/21. Just saying.
Graham outperforms Lyons at the same age

I'd rather take a hit on a different trade (ie. Tuohy) than on a trade involving one of our best and most valuable players.

Yeah agree totally. Unfortunately it's out of our hands hey:(

Given I think we could get Marchbank for an early second, that looks like Gibbs for Lyons, Stewart and McKenna...which I dislike immensely.

Should be able to get 13 and Lyons for Gibbs. Send 13 and 23 to GWS for MB, Steele and Stewart.

Gibbs + 23 = Marchbank, Steele, Lyons, Stewart.
Keep Pick 5.

Much better.

That's fair enough, it just makes me feel so uneasy. Carlton have serious history in signing saviors and whilst it worked previously it doesn't seem to translate well in this day and age. I look at Geelong (pre Danger), Hawthorn and more recently the Doggies who have built successful teams from the ground up through the draft, shrewd trading and FA's with consistency all over the park rather than one superstar on huge coin

On Buddy, he has yet to taste success with the Swans.
Although Buddy's contract was exorbitant, i'd say he's earning his keep, unlike Tippett who has done sweet FA. Re Fyfe, he would be on the wish list for every club because when he's fit, Fyfe is IMHO the most influential player in the AFL. I'd pick him over Dangerfield. I understand your eggs in one basket theory but CFC appear to be building a strong foundation, then add some real mid-field grunt in the near future. ie, not investing in just 1 big egg.

The fact Lyon played 20 games for Adelaide is why Adelaide are prepared to pay up to get Gibbs.
Lyon is an average AFL footballer. He is good enough to play AFL, but not good enough to make a difference for Adelaide in finals. Much like Kerridge and Wright last year. If Adelaide get Gibbs they improve their best22 quality significantly (might even make the GF). That is worth a premium payment to CFC.

CFC need quality in our best 22, and Gibbs is that, so hope we are getting a great overall deal (like the Kerridge + GWS4 deal last year that got us Plowman, Phillips and Sumner as best 22 players for Menzel).

Not much point in trading up from 5 (Brodie) to 2 (McGrath) unless we really want McGrath? We have Simmo, Doc, Byrne, Sheehan and Tuohy as small defenders now, so is McGrath of so much value to us that we should lose #13 (Venables or Scrimshaw) and Graham for #21?

You had me until you mentioned Graham as a 'loss'.

If Adelaide think that Bryce Gibbs can help them get premiership then they should be happy to trade pick 13 and their first next year for a Gibbs and a second this year or next back from us. In relation to Lyon if he was rated by Adelaide they would have signed him and gave him a decent offer a pick in the 30s is fair.

In turn Lyon and 13 for Gibbs and 23 is an absolute joke.

So you are OK with the deal of #13 + Graham for #21? (i.e.. We should pay someone to take Graham rather than just delist him)
Personally, I am happy to leave Graham on our list if nobody makes a good offer as he is young and should improve again next year.

I'm of the same opinion, BB...

Two first round picks for Gibbs or get stuffed. Still contracted for 3 more years. If the Crows want him so bad... Show me the picks!! If they think it's too much. Good luck in the future. I dont care that he is 28. He could have 5 good years of footy left in him. We need him to stay and help take the pressure off Cripps while he is still young.

I think we can still do that and not drop our pick 23. Let's face it , Gibbs for 13 and Lyon is a steal and in the Crows position they would be doing very well.
We would not be doing fantastically but no complaints.

To be honest I am sicking of sending our good players to Adelaide only for them to turn into stars.

He is not worth x2 first rounders

Mate I was having a joke with you...
