I know posters will not agree but I'm with Bolton. We need Gibbs. 2 first rounders don't comfort me, it actually makes me cringe on how bad 2018 could be.
These are the big decisions that we have so often shied away from. These are the big decisions that will make Jack Elliot groan - and that has to be a good thing.

It's all relative.

It matters if pick 34 is just enough to satisfy GWS for Kennedy, whereas 40 might be a straight 'no' from them.
Cameron from GWS is on the record as saying they want a pick under 30 for Kennedy...they might accept pick 34 in the end, we say we did our best.

This. And the big plus out of this is we are no longer reliant on Gibbs trade to do Kennedy (while keeping 2018 2nd) which takes away any leverage/pressure Adelaide could apply on that deal.

A 6 pick upgrade can be everything if it unlocks something which starts the chain.

So the Crows thought the deal for Gibbs was pick 10 + 2018 1st, while we send back a 2018 2nd.

SOS thought the Crows 2018 2nd was part of the deal, Crows stated it wasn't part of he deal

Don't think the deal is that far away from getting done

Exactly. The key for me here is that we walk away with pick 10 and a 2018 1st as a starting point. I'd have been rapt simply with 10. We're sitting pretty.

Am I missing something? Why wouldn't Adelaide swap second rounders. Surely that part of it is in their favour?

Im happy to take the 2 first round picks and everyone keeps there 2nd pick.

My thoughts are we move on Kennedy and 1 other gws player for future 2nd. Get it off our books.
4th rounder for Lobbe and 34.
Offer 40 for Lang.
Wait and watch the crows sweat until the last 30 mins. We don’t have any second rounders to offer in return.
Last trade of the period - 34 and change for hawks future 2nd.
If there's no 2018 second the crows will look to get whatever we have left, and if 34 is there they will want it. Get Lang for 40, Kennedy for 34 and Schache for our future 2nd. Leaves no second round picks from either '17/'18. We tell the Crows its 2 firsts and a swap of future 3rds take it or leave it.

I think you are missing something. Currently our 2nd round future pick is part of the deal. They don't want their 2nd round future pick part of the deal too.

Because they want our 2nd round pick, so all they are doing is downgrading their 1st to our 2nd, like 5 picks. So the deal is really just pick 10

I knew the deal wasn’t 100% locked in because we didn’t get prior confirmation from one of the reliable 3, half an hour before.

Anyway we can set up a crowdsourcing fund for some thank you beers for M3 and Barrass?

Totally agree. There are a million ways to solve that. It's their pick 34/35 next year that we think we aren't getting. It's our pick 900 vs their pick say 550 on most likely finishes. If they move they have to move by 450 to split the difference. So keep your second and take our third next year instead of asking for our second. We wanted back their second pick worth about 550. Compromise on that and we still give our second next year but get back their third.

So it's either a second pick downgrade and a third or two thirds that we end up with.

All assuming both teams compromise. Which they will.

I'm generally pretty conservative with this sort of thing, but I don't feel we would lose that much...assuming we bring at least Kennedy and Lang in. Most teams that have lost great players in recent years have not lost a step, though admittedly they weren't coming from as far back.

Gibbsy isn't a physical or spiritual leader, and I feel his finesse game has slipped in the last couple of seasons.

Maybe I just want to believe these things, but I think we can hold our ground.

Wouldn't surprise me if Reid intentionally blew the deal up (re 2nd round picks) to put pressure on our list management team.

Spare me the Crows didnt know this involved a swap of 2nd rounders.

Agree Reid must seriously be incompetent if he didnt understand the deal!
