Where has this list cut rumour come from?

By the end of a normal season some teams can barely field a full team as it is.ars

There has been talk of the AFL reducing list numbers in 2021. I'd be happy with that if they
kept the home and away season to 17 games, would be great to finally have a fair and equitable draw.

I love it from a fairness perspective, but as that would mean almost 50 less H&A games it would result in a much lower revenue from attendance and TV/radio deals. Therefore salary cap less, overall TPP less - doubt the AFL will do it.

Maybe it's the reality check they need, salaries should be lower, the integrity of the competition should be of the greatest concern, maybe in the age of covid it's time to reassess priorities. TV/Radio may actually find they benefit from less meaningless games.

Hard pass on Pickett.

He had many chances with us. Was never commited and never came back to pre season anything resembling AFL standard shape.

Very injury prone too, but I'm sure his lack of fitness and commitment contributed to those injuries.

Happy for him to get another chance in the AFL, just not Carlton.

Rather give a rookie spot to a hungry kid willing to work his ass off ala Cotrell

Nope, keep the lists the same or slightly larger and play 34 games ... every team at home and away. Only way to have a fair competition. Clubs choose which players play which games, even happy to extend the bench and/or allow more rotations to protect players.

Have explained how several times prior to this season, we have now proved it is very possible with the hub concept and games played in blocks.

17 0r 34 games i'd be happy with as long as we have an even draw. My thinking was to have 17 games for the men and allow the women to play a full season in between, not the truncated version we currently see.

It is a great point you make.
17 games means every game is important.
I am all for it, for all the reasons you state.
I just think it would be a brave move to reduce the pool of money that all the key stakeholders share.
Perhaps it’s 17 again next season out of necessity, and everyone settles on it as the most fair option going forward.
Time will tell.

Exactly! Talent only takes you so far
The reason so many rookies become good players is because they work there ass off to make it

There would be so many junk games. It would become meaningless.

17 is fair, and makes every game important.

At least the filth and Ninthmond would have to play away from the MCG. Worst still, the Pies would actually travel west more than once every five seasons.

You can do that with 17 games. You play every team home and away over 2 seasons.
Every Vic club travels once to WA, SA, NSW, Qld per year, and alternate which team they play.
Interstate teams travel to the other states once per year too, and obviously more often to Vic.
Simple.

Twice as many games would be tempting for sponsors and TV rights, more money to put into grass roots to keep the pool of players growing

Not being smart, but how would Perryman and Petrucelle fit into the 22? It's our current dilemma of who's comes out.
Petruchelle is a bit meh to me. Speed is good but, we have the wings covered for now and could very well slot into the forward line. We have Honey, Phillips etc to do that eventually.

Perryman though, he just footies! Slots in where needed. Rotates through the midfield off a HB. Can go forward and kick goals. Clean by hand and foot. Provides the outside clean disposal that we are so desperate for. Above average at everything. Very versatile.

Paid out due to soft cap squeeze according to Cochrane per SEN interview.

Think about it carefully. A man with 2 years to go in his deal, is paid out due to a soft cap squeeze, meaning he is paid out two years in one hit, thus affecting Their cap.
This smells like when the GC got draft concessions then let Martin walk to the draft as they didn’t need the picks.

I don’t buy it.

Absolutely. The sub text is that he is out of favour with Dew, a bit of too popular or well liked by the players. Cultural change? Pissing contest? Who knows? I hope he got a good payout and finds another home. Don’t wish unemployment in this environment on anyone.

wasnt the word that it falls under the ‘one time’ exemption, that all the clubs have access to, where staff who have to be cut due to covid spending reductions can be paid out without it dramatically impacting the next years soft cap?

And papley is a gun even better than prestia was at that stage. Youre saying it wasn't overs now in hindsight...prestia was often injured back then too.

If papley helps win us a premiership I certainly won't be giving a sh*t about 2 draft picks. And anyway I'm not sure why you're going so hard at this when we dont know what the deal is...it probably won't be 2 x first, we might get a 2nd rounder or something back which would be low 20s.

IF is the key word.

Philadelphia 76’ers are a sobering lesson - on what not to do.

They spent 6 years building a really good roster with heaps of current & future draft picks to trade with.

Paid serious “overs” on trades that have not worked out.

They‘ve now burnt all the picks they spent years building

Got killed in first week of playoffs.

Have overpaid on wrong players (specifically Harris and Horford) who are now filling their salary cap and left them zero wriggle room to make any more trades.

Destroyed 6 years of work/planning in 12 months of foolishness.

So PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

Very easy to piss 10 years of slog down the drain.

34 games is a very long season, playing 34 games in a comp purely to decide which teams you then play in finals is real excessive, the players, the AFL, cricket, the soccer would never allow it.

Shrewd, shrewd! Is that what you call it. Friggen amazing is what I would.

I like Pitto but let’s be honest he is a decent back up ruckman, not best 22 in a premiership side, that’s for TDK, but should he be out injured then Pitto will suffice.

But the other 3, best 22 if not best 10! and for what? A half eaten stale chip that a seagull refused to eat!

Setters instead of Shiel for a late second rounder instead of $1m and 2x 1st rounders and screwing over * in the process, can’t even remember what SOS paid for Plow but again cheap as chips and as for Martin, didn’t even cost the steam off one of SOS’s turds .... which was served up to GCS when we got him for zero!

Does anyone seriously remember our list after MM was sacked? All this has been achieved with minimal help from the AFL .... unlike Brisbane and GCS, when we finished below GSC that killed the AFL, they had to wait another year to give GCS help rather than helping both of us. The compensation we received that year and previous years when we were crap and taking our medicine was pitiful ... yet SOS turned it into Gibbo and Cotrell!.... not to mention the AFL coming in and scuppering our trades with dodgy ‘ambassador‘ deals .... I don’t like to spruik conspiracy but AFL by their actions have had it in for us for a long time ..... did you see them get involved in the Treloar deal, the Shiel deal, the O’Meara deal or the Tom Lynch deal (although he was a free agent) No! but the rabbit deal .... that was just plain disgraceful.

This is why I am just wrapped today. SOS has built an absolute amazing foundation and now all we need is the right bells and whistles. All from a position of Fitzroy type list vomit 4 short but painful years ago. Need I mention we also have the ammunition to add those bells and whistles with cap space and picks?

The gun is loaded and cocked.

SOS the marksman.

The AFL the target.

Our time is coming and revenge will be sweet!

FYI (since you asked!!).

Plowman cost approx 1/3 of Troy Menzel.
