nice CaptainCripps13.

"Our development program is literally the worst in the league." no argument there!
It's kind of digusting seeing Errol Gulden waltz into Sydney's best 22 and immediately become a top 100 player in the competition. Apart from Walsh and Weitering and Cripps before them, all who we had to spend big cash on - why can we not do that?

This thread is insane. Has the start to the season been great? No. But it is a process. You do not go from worst team in the comp in 2015 to Premiers in 2021 if you want a sustained period of success. The Club was ripped apart from the ground up when Bolton came on. Some of the appointments have worked some have not. It is a continual period of growth and change. The goal (not communicated externally) was a flag by 2025. This is well on track.

I am lucky to have a number of contacts at the Club at Board level and through current and past players because of a company I am involved with. Feel free to dismiss this post. I don't care - I am not going to debate it with anyone. You can choose to see it as a load of crap or not. But I have decided for the first time in 5+ years of reading this thread from time to time to correct some of the information posted here and to hopefully give some hope to Blues fans that whilst the path is not easy, things are on track.

1. Murphy is being managed to 300 games because he had an excellent offer to leave the Club in 2015 and 2016, but we sold him on the value of being a 300 game blue. His tackling is massively impacted by shoulder issues - the kid has broken his body for the club. Think about culture. Do you think it is a good look to just discard someone who turned down a ton of cash to be loyal? How he has been treated by the Club has had a direct impact on recruiting both Jack Martin and Zac Williams. Was it smart to make that commitment in 2015/2016 - probably not. But if you want your club to have a soul...

2. The Board were not sold on David Teague. At the time our favourite Pokie King offered to pay the cost of recruiting Clarkson. This was seen as Mick 2.0 and rejected. When the Club performed the players were very strong in wanting him to have the top job. The process they put together recommended Michael Voss (who many believe is the architect behind Port's rise). Teague was the compromise candidate between factions. There are currently no moves to replace Teague. He would have received more support with Assistants at the end of last year but COVID made paying out contracts impossible. Pokie King would only step up if we got Clarkson. That offer still stands - he will pay all payouts etc to get Clarko and his desired assistants. Is that likely? No. If we are not close to the 8 by round 18 watch the drums beat. Voss is also still a possibility but likely to be at GWS.

3. Cripps is not going anywhere. He is playing injured. He loves the Club. There is zero repeat after me zero chance he goes back to WA

4. There is a rift between some of the younger players and the senior guys. Yes there is the feeling Teague has favourites. Some of the older guys also just cannot click with the younger ones. Simpson was a big part of this and why he did not play on. This happens at every club. Our development program is literally the worst in the league. The Club is currently spending $200k benchmarking this against other clubs programs and other sports. This will be the big focus of the offseason overhaul (as well as new assistants - assuming Teague keeps his head above water). It has created issues with some of the young guys who see what their friends at other clubs get in terms of one on one coaching, specific programs etc.

5. Teague is not the pussy he is portrayed as being. The screaming in Brisbane last year is a small fraction of what he is capable of. On Friday he broke a table in a massive rant at the playing group. Remember Teague as a player? Always put his body on the line. He is trying to instil that culture in the team but he is pushing hard up against 20 years of crap culture. For the record I am not a Teague apologist - I think he has serious short comings but I am not convinced he cannot take us to 17 yet. Young coaches take time.

6. The Club has been caught off guard by the speed of the game this year. We have moved away from speed in our drafting because the game became so stoppage focused. We will need to address this balance over the next year or two. This is a highly rated draft and expect at least 8 list changes. Very much a make or break year for a number of players. We will trade our 2022 pick to try and get another top 15 pick this year. As of December free agents we were into were Zach Merret, Christian Salem and Shaun Atley. Josh Kelly is also a possibility to leave GWS but not sure of our interest.

Keep the faith baggers. The club knows what needs to change and is determined to get there.
This probably verifies the story about Stoker being cautioned about his confidence and questioning why he isn't getting senior games resulting in leaving the bubble.

Point 2 Ross Lyon is the perfect one for putting the fear of god into the players in my view best choice to help Teague though he still has Senior Coaching aspirations.

If he still had aspirations, you think he would jump at the chance to keep his appetite wet, I’d be more than happy with him as an assistant.

Thanks for sharing!

Are you able to share what injury Cripps is carrying? And the rift amongst players, is that because of match selection and Teagues favouritism, or because they just don't get along?
Excluding Eddie, I dont think our seniors take the young ones under their arm to guide and mentor them to the extent other clubs do.

Thankyou! Broke a table.... wowsers... where is that Teague we want to see! Would do a world for supporters to see that level of investment and emotion.
Breaks tables behind the scenes when required and appears calm on the surface, I like this approach.

I’m pleased we’ve had the word from CaptainCripps13. But you do have to wonder why it has taken until 2021 for the club to work out its development program is poor.
yep, little wonder so many of our high draft picks are disappointments. A bit unlucky to be drafted by Carlton -- a bit like Melbourne a few years back.

23-25 would be around the time frame I've been thinking of in terms of a premiership, never saw it happening beforehand the way that we turned our list over.

Why do we have to wait until the end of the year re development?

Bring Deisel in now, get a few others...

The first thing I would think is that they wouldn't have room under their cap to pay extra people now. Others would be under contract and even if you would want to move them on you'd have to pay them out, so you'd still have no cap space.

I'm curious as to why you think we'd bring Diesel in anyway? I think guys who have played recently would be better than Diesel.

Rumour has it after the table was broken he went on the white board and wrote these 6 words designed to change our on field culture.

Mental strength
Apply game plan
Lead patterns
Attack with vigour
Keep Possession
Aggression - Controlled

This will now be abbreviated and all staff and supporters are encouraged to constantly chant M.A.L.A.K.A if we feel on of our boys is not adhering to these principles.

This catch phrase has already caught on big time with supporters in Oakleigh and Lonsdale st.

I agree with you 100% there, but just to reiterate that what you've said is very different from accusing Murph himself of throwing a tantrum.

I think the club has tried to do right by him, but I'm hoping that we have the courage to leave him "stranded" on <300 if that's what is right by the 40+ other blokes.

I think if we'd beaten Collingwood it would be a non-issue (or at least a lesser one), and I don't think Stocker over Murph would have impacted the result.

Teams carry poor performers all the time. Collingwood carried Ruscoe and Thomas to a 21 point win.
Imo BB its irrelevant whether another player would be able to contribute a better performance than Murph in the same role .
We are carrying a player that is not able or willing to carry out a basic requirement of football .
At his age if he is not able to contribute physically to the requirements of team football he should retire .
In particular in the small forward role which has a particular skill these days .

The time was more than adequate at the end of last year given his physical capabilities now to have hung up the boots imo its a poor indication of both player and club that he continued on .
Now i will be looking forward to Murph killing it in his annual good game against Freo .

The kid has played two games, bit early to call him a top 100 player. So if every team had their best 5 players available he would squeeze one of them out after two games.

Remember a guy by the name of Mark McGough, won a anzac day medal in his second game. Was at his second club 2 years later and was playing in the WAFL 2 years after that.

Have you seen the kid kick? It's elite. And the fact he can find the ball like he can already means it's hard to see him not being a top 100 player. He's been best on in Sydney's first two games.

So... for more knowledgeable footy observers than me (that’s probably most of you), if a player joins Carlton as an 18 year old and has 2-4 years in a sub-standard development program, can they make that up?

Point 6 We would have to be the only team to think that running power wouldn't be important with decrease in rotations and in challenging Richmond in the finals

Sorry again I am not being clear. By this comment I meant in our drafting over the last 5+ years we did not predict the move towards quick running that has occurred. Whilst getting Saad helps with this, ideally we would have more leg speed in some of our younger kids.

He was there last year before COVID hit so he would already have relationships with the players.

Our development has been woeful for twenty years. Even if we nail a particular draft, there's every chance that the majority of players selected will be busts. Add to that our drafting being sub par for a while (until recently?) and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Much easier when you are part of an academy from 15 with all the specialised training that goes with that.

No I believe Stocker left because of a family situation. Confident lad. He will be fine.
