I can safely say Sam Jacobs will not make it guys. We can talk up the fact that he's young and he's not the finished article yet, but anyone who's seen him play will tell you he's just too slow to ever play well at AFL level. Right now he's also too slow for VFL level.
Yet, people still beleive Stuart Dew will make it. Have a little faith FFS.

It's true he wasn't super quick, but seemed to be out in front on the lead a lot, so not sure if the "top speed" comment is valid.

IMO JK's effectiveness at ground level were unquestionable.
He often got to the bottom of the packs he was in and dished out a handpass or knocked it to advantage.
His second and third efforts around packs was great..........not sure where thess comments came from, clearly not a JK fan....

I rate JK highly, but he had 2 main weaknesses. One was a lack of speed from a standing start, but this was partly compensated by his exceptional reach on the lead. Once he got going, he moves pretty quick across the ground, but the issue was the first 10m, which is just so crucial for KP forwards. It did prevent him from being used in the defensive half when needed. He also had a poor leap at ruck contests, compared to other talls like Aisake and Hampson, which meant he struggled at the centre bounce, despite being around 198cm tall. JK is/was a pure CHF, and will be a very good one, but those 2 limitations meant he lacked versatility, which is almost a prerequisite nowadays. Kruezer is a massive contrast. He can play tall or small, ruck, CHF, wing, CHB. Anywhere. He also shares JK's sensational work ethic. :)

Stuart Dew already has made it.

He was one of the most devastating kicks in the competition and a vital part of a premiership side.

Agree with that.

Not sure why JK got brought into this thread. Very different players.
I just took exception to the comments that he was no good at ground level.

Spot the keyword in that sentence.:thumbsu:

I love Stewie.......see my Avatar.;)

JK's awesome at ground level. His second efforts are outstanding. The difference with Kruezer though, is that he can play small when it hits the deck, whereas JK couldn't. :)

Exactly, he already has proven that he has what it takes to play at AFL level and is therefore no comparison as a 19yo rookie with doubts as to whether or not he will ever develop sufficient speed to play at AFL level.

For a moment there I thought you were talking about my old avatar with Stewie Griffin looking resplendantly indignant in a Carlton uniform.

Thylacine MADE me change it, I think he hates babies or something...real nasty piece of work :p

A major concern I had with JK was his legspeed, both acceleration and top speed didn't seem to be up to AFL standards in my opinion. Additionaly, his ability to change direction and his effectiveness once the ball hit the ground were also of concern. How does Kreuzer compare to JK in these facets of the game?

Kreuzer is pretty quick for a guy his size, so much so, that he was able to outrun Jaxon Barham earlier in the year, who has since been drafted to Collingwood. Can't recall what he is like with his change of direction, howeverm his ability below his knees is first class. You should get out to a training session and see what he is like on the track. It will be well worth it.

You know you secretly wanted to.

Agree, saw him in a TAC game last season against Geelong Falcons at PP. The ball was under a pack on the wing and he just dove in and hand-balled the thing out from his knees. There's me rubbing me eyes thinking "I done seen it, but I donts believe it". Unreal.

At DC JK did a 3.15sec for 20m
Kreuzer reportedly had a little injury niggle at DC and his 20m time wasnt great, but I have read that he had done a 3.04 for 20m previously.
.1 of a sec over 20m is not insignificant for a leading forward.

He has trimmed down considerably from last year, and has been moving pretty well on the track. Will be keen to see how he goes early on with the Bullants.

Jacobs ruckwork is quite good as is his footy nous.
He has been spilling a lot of uncontested marks at training so I hope he hasn't got "butter fingers"

The problem I see is that he is unlikely to move ahead of MK,Hammer and probably Aisake in the pecking order. He is likey to never be more than a 3rd or 4th back up at Carlton

I can see us putting 2-4 years in to developing him and then another club with a ruckman shortage luring him with the promise of greater opportunities. If this happens hopefully he will have some trade value and just not leave through the PSD.

To make it in the AFL properly u need an asset Stuart Dew might be big, but he has a massive kick and is explosive, so I wouldnt be comparing him to Jacobs.

I hope Jacobs makes it, however I cant see anything he is really good at..

When i talk up our list to mates I never mention Kreuzer, always just Judd, Fev Murph Simmo and Gibbs hopefully Kreuzer can convince me to include him in my list bragging!

And if he gets towelled up? Do we have our lines/excuses all ready?

No-one could have beaten Lade in that form.
He's just learning FFS.
He "presented" well. Hello JK.
He's just a kid.
He was blocked at every opportunity.
The delivery was poor.
Conditions were against him.
Port roved to his tapouts.
It was windy.
The big crowd upset him.

Suggest we be prepared for anything from gun debut to ......................
IMO 3 disposals is a very good debut

How about "it was just his 1st game FFS"

He may not have super pace, but he has a meeean tackle and sheppard, something our midfielders could really do with. I see your point though.

That club used to be us.

This is probably a HBF or Gilly question, but how would those who have seen Kreuzer in action compare him to Josh Kennedy in a marking forward role?

No offence, but i didn't really rate Kennedy as an AFL footballer. He was too slow and didn't really do much in the games he played. Anyway hope he does well and can prove me wrong! Kreuzer will have more go in him than Kennedy.

I like that in a ruckman, someone to protect and lead physically, if he can improve in an offensive aspect he might have half a chance, however I think Hampson, Aiske and Cloke are ahead ATM.

Good to be mentioning several names for one position though. On another note I think that is the case all over the ground which means we have great depth, i.e. there are players fighting for a position everywhere. The only spot not really challenged is FF and Fev, I hope he doesnt let us down.

Bring on the season proper!:thumbsu:

Why the **** should we care whether JK makes it now? It's not like we know him personally and feel any real attachment to him. If he turns out a dud it just adds value to our trade deal. It means we got CJ for 2 picks instead of 2 picks and a player pretty much. I don't necessarily want any young kid to fail at their chosen career but this is the big time and business is business. I was never convinced by him and if he proves me wrong then good on him - wouldn't be the first time. On the other hand if he proves me right, imagine how wild the Weagles supporters will be knowing we traded him in good faith and he didn't provide the goods for them.

I was wishing him the best of luck, and my opinion is the same as yours. I didn't carry on about him, as if i knew him personally. Im saying Kreuzer is going to be a hell of alot better than Kennedy was and will ever be!:thumbsu:
