I'll be devastated if he leaves... At the same time I reall think GWS will find it very hard to sign stars given the GC performances

He isn't going anywhere, GWS are going to be 10 times as bad as the suns are now. you would have to be extremely greedy to want to sell your soul to play for a C grade side.

GWS are well on the way to being a basket case already. They passed on two rookie selections so they didn't take Curnow, Pederson etc and two of their rookies have already walked out on them already. The AFL will go the distance up there but they'll stink for a fair while.

Exactly, Sheedy is crazy for taking the job and he is going to look like an idiot in a couple years with the way he is spruiking them.

You mean an outrageously well paid idiot who wouldn't have got a coaching position anywhere else in the AFL?

Can I ask something hugely, wildly controversial? Is he..... is he almost our best player?

I'd say so. With every game the chasm between Judd and himself gets smaller IMO

I really hope he doesn't leave. Anyone know how much we're offering him? I know GWS are gonna stink it up, but being their first captain and $1m a year is awful tempting for a young lad.

Who walked out??

Cheers.

I have to agree they were odd choices, very much high risk based on upside. I would have thought their first priority would be some experience and developed bodies, as you say Curnow and Pederson should have been high on their list

I think there would be a few clubs now kicking themselves for not taking a punt on Curnow. Daniel Harris seems to be doing exactly what's needed of him at GC so I reckon you're right.

Harris is the perfect style of recruit for expansion teams. Not a star, but you're not gonna get many stars in the first year. What he brings is honest, AFL quality effort and meat-and-potatoes football that draftees can't produce in their first few years.

Getting 6-12 seasoned VFL/WAFL/SANFL stars or AFL B-graders is a good start to building a competitive football team. Yes, on top of that you try to jag a few young gun name players, and then of course you load up on the high end talent through the draft.

Where Harris, and probably GAJ and Bock were oh so right for Gold Coast, to me Krakouer, Harbrow and Brennan were oh so wrong. You just can't BUILD around those guys. They're not guys you RELY upon. Those are icing on the cake guys.

I can understand Harbrow (he's a Gold Coast native) but Brennan and Krakouer were terrible selections, especially as they had to trade up big for Brennan. They could have listed Curnow and Duigan and other similar players for free, without having to give up anything, and costing less of the salary cap. The only issue with GAJ is he has done nothing to suggest that he will be a good captain. Reckon Brown would have been a better choice for skipper.

Article written by Patrick Smith is usually a good indicator that the story is all rubbish and just his way of having another dig at Carlton. Suprised he didn't have a go at Dick Pratt in the article.

How's supporting Richmond going for ya Smith???

Brennan is fools gold. He looks flashy, has a decent size to him but as others have pointed out, he makes the difficult look easy but the easy look impossible. Am so glad we were not interested in him. He will do amazing things at times, but I agree, you dont want to be building a team around him.

You can build a team around Murphy and players like him, but I dont think he will leave. But until that pen hits the paper you never really know. Get it done already.

I said on the main board topic that GAJ has it all in front of him to prove he IS the right man to lead Gold Coast. As a player, he's more than qualified. As a name-player to recruit to the Suns, there was none better. But as a LEADER... that's all still in front of him. I have my doubts, but maybe he'll do for the Suns what Judd's done for us. That would be success.

Now, to keep it on topic... Murphy would be a superb get for GWS. Right age, right attitude, etc. You'd throw big money, and the captaincy if needs be, to lure him. For our sake, let's hope that doesn't happen. I feel Murph will stay.

I suspect he will be getting a significant pay rise at the Blues, so why would he want to leave and go to a total and utter rabble of a club, when we are pretty close to being a top 4 side.

He will be very well paid to stay.

Firstly, I am annoyed at collingwood being able to sign stars so early in the year, this is giving more $$$ power to chase murph as well as putting pressure on GWS to sign a star.

Secondly, does murph really want to go through another few years of getting belted both on the score board as well as physically?

Murph, sign for 3 years on a decent contract, grab a premiership then go fishing for money.
