Played structured (fixed limit betting) hold em at burswood yesterday and came across 9 5 off suit (one was a diamond). It's not a hand that I normally play but I thought what the hell and played to the flop.

Flop doesn't help me out as far as my 5 and 9 were concerned but 2 diamonds come up and I thought I would play it further.

When it was all said and done at the river there were 4 players and 4 diamonds on the board and everyone bets around to me (I was last to act), so I just called the bet. Noone had a diamond and I won the pot.

To say it didn't stir people is an understatement and a couple of arguments broke out as to why I played that hand in the first place and why I played it after the flop.

I said to one guy "do I have to justify why I play each hand WITH MY OWN MONEY".......he had no comeback

Anyhow, I walked away from the table and had a brief break (I had to calm myself down to avoid further confrontation).

I get back from my break and the first hand back I'm looking down at Queen 10 suited. I turned the nut straight and raised after the turn and got 3 callers to the river. River was no help to noone but someone bet into it and I raised again. Showed the nuts and I turned to the guy who started the argument and said words to the effect of "that's why you play bad cards sometimes because you get non believers that think you play bad cards all the time and you can string them along when you get a premium hand."

Anyone with thoughts or other bluff stories are welcome to reply:D

You would never sit at the casino as long as I would for that to be a problem for me LOL.

Your errors were not what hands you played or how you played them. As I see it, your mistakes are above, the fact that you thought it necessary to speak. Take the opportunity for angle shoots. :thumbsu:

But, for the rest of us, lets hope that encourages you to play junk hands more often.
True, but what the hell is everyone doing betting/calling on the river to a 4-flush?

I wonder if anyone showed their hand. Even at limit, forget pot odds, I'm sure at least 1 of the 4 had no business going to showdown.

Was an ordinary flop, considering the 9 of diamonds was the winner. he doesnt actually say what the limit was or what the bets were etc... so it may have been a small pot after flop and turn... keeping mid pairs interested:confused:

Although by the reaction from the table, you'd think there must've been a decent kitty.

Only $300 or so

Rather than "do I have to justify why I play each hand WITH MY OWN MONEY"

I would have preferred:
- kiss the biceps ala Ken Patera (must be at least one here who knows him)
- fire an invisible gun, blow away the invisible smoke, give a wink, and say "Smokin'!"
- Stare wide-eyed, open-mouthed, amazed at your own brilliance, and say with a chuckle "**** I'm good!"
- Start singing "I'm Too Sexy"
- or, all of the above

Guaranteed to get a reaction I'd say. :thumbsu:

I wouldnt call it bluffing, but there was one guy at our table a few weeks ago on limit at Burswood, who would go to the flop no matter what. When he hit something he was there until the river.

I had A8 suited and flopped A-8-Q, he checked, i bet, a couple of callers, turn a 3, he checks, i bet, he calls ( a couple of others call too) river 9, he bets which was the 1st time he lead. Cards were all rainbow, and i was gonna raise, but something was fishy, so i called...... he had 9-9

everyone got stuck into him on the table and even one of the regualrs there who wasnt playing, was prett fired up

i was a bit dissapointed.....

If you're looking to bluff at limit poker, you may as well just give people your money before you sit down. At these limits it's near impossible - as seen in the fact that in the example, four other guys went to showdown.

Watch some high stakes games online. Almost every bet is called, or raised.

Why the hell is this thread called "bluffing"? I haven't seen one example of a bluff. Only examples of terrible terrible play, highlighted by the intial post.

Maybe Fluffing would have been a better title?
