Blumfield was squeezed out at Essendon due to the salary cap in 2002, so the initial post was incorrect.

Is the year really relevant ? The fact remains that he was cut was from the Bombers because he wasn't deemed good enough to remain on their list. If he was deemed good enough, then he would have been retained and someone else would have got the axe.

JB can play, no doubt about it. Very unlucky footballer. Had the norm smith in the bag during the 2000 GF. I know him quite well through a mate - poor bloke was ruined by Essendon - Mismanagement of injuries - and its not the first time either... Mercuri springs to mind as another forced to play while injured... thats why muscles get ripped off bones... and Richmond felt the pain of it all without even realising it...

He's got a great job now and will do well in the VFL.

Probably not a huge star, but, his best football was with us. People talk about his efforts in the 2000 grand final. In fact, he was the only player who would have challenged Hird for the Norm Smith that day.

Have heard from a source at Essendon that his injuries were a big concern before he was traded, so I think his AFL career is over unfortunately.

Pike a loser ? 4 flags and 5 GF's in 6 years ? If he was a loser then I don't think he'd be able to boast that record. Not only that, but he is still on their list ! Surely he must have some talent ? Has been a very handy utility for the Lions and I was sorry to see him leave the Roos.

Hasn't Pike got 4 Flags and 6 GF's in 7 years (98, 04 Losses, 99, 01, 02, 03 wins) either way he isn't a loser with premiership medals.
