Seems there are a few book readers on this board.

This is one product I always go out of my way to visit a "bricks and mortar" store.

Please discuss and weird and wonderful book shops you have encountered.

I'd have to nominate one called "the Avenue".

I go to the one in Albert Park and I think it's great.

They have other's in Richmond and Elsternwick.

Dillon's on The Parade and Dymocks in the city are the two stand outs for general retail here, the staff are knowledgeable and the shelves always look great. Mick Treloar and McConnell's are great for second hand but they charge. Bargain books can always be had at the Oxfam Shop on Hutt St and the Lion's Club bookshop at Tusmore Park, I've fished many bargains out of there. Imprints on Hindley St is a great shop too for more eclectic titles.

There's a little one in Kensington with second hand books, lovely old dear runs it more for love than money.

I still get sucked in by the Book Grocer discounts though, walk in to buy one book walk out with five.

Crow Books in East Vic Park is a good one that's open late, but is pretty pricey. I generally just go to Dymocks either in the city or Garden City. I like big bookshops though, which is why I liked Borders when it was briefly open here, and why I love the Dymocks in Melbourne city.

Elizabeth's Secondhand Books in Fremantle is great for variety and cheapies. There was a secondhand bookshop on Fitzgerald St in North Perth, across from the Rosemount, it might still be there who knows. Anyway it is/was insane. Way way way more books than shelf space. Books piled to the ceiling and even spilling out into huge bargain bins out on the footpath.

Boffins in the city, and The Lane in Claremont are good ones too.

There's no cool bookstores near me :( only big chains like QBD.
A new library has just opened up nearby so I'm looking forward to checking that out.

You're in Melbourne right?

Op shops are the best book stores. I've found some unbelievable finds there, such as a hardback copy of Infinite Jest for $3 in the Armadale (!) Vinnies store a year ago.

Small bookstores, that are mostly second hand books are my favourites. You never know if you'll look around and walk out with nothing, or leave with a bunch of books you had no idea you were going to get. New books (the rare times these days I can justify getting them outside birthday / Christmas) I'll grab anywhere.
