Bottomless pitt

I don't know that he'll be a star in the same way Fyfe or Hill will be but I think he'll be in that first 10 or 12 players picked group at the club in a few years.
It is interesting to note that Worsfold is quoted today as saying Brad Shepherd will be an excellent midfielder & first 22 player in 2 to 3 years time, he was in the same draft as Fyfe.
Lyon was quoted not long after he came to the club as saying Hill is tracking perfectly for his age and size.
It's hard not to conclude that us hardcore fans as a group expect too much too soon.

yep, expectations ruin young players. I can see pitt becoming a mundy/enright type... and boy could we use a type like that.

I think shepherd will be a great player personally

189cm's and 69kg's when drafted. You'd see POWs with more meat on them. Good article.

Caught this story this arvo, good read. :thumbsu:

Like the look of him once the ball leaves his boot, but i'm a bit impartial on how drawn out his kicking technique is. I could just see him getting caught HTB a lot if he takes too long to kick it in the modernised game.

That is my number 1 concern about Pitt also.

awareness comes with experience, the kid will be a gun.... you dont hear people saying that shuey isnt going to be a gun because he got caught a few times during his finals games.

More composed and more classy. Touted as pendlebury like when drafted and I think the comparison still sticks. Sounds like a disciplined kid who's sticking to his program, so I have every confidence that he'll come good. I'll be surprised if he isn't a top line player in a couple of years.

I think he will be . I think he will be more valuable than Hill.

The Ibbo comparison - nah he is far better evasively than Ibbo who is a bit one dimensional .

he wont be better or more valuable than hill, but he will be a very very good player

I'm really not all that positive about this bloke. It is too early to tell but he's slow, he's scrawny and as he puts on weight he will probly lose more pace and his supposed strength at junior level, his kicking, has been completely exposed at AFL level and has been very very ordinary. He didn't even show much in the WAFL last yr, he's got a long way to go just to become an AFL player let alone a good one.

The Ibbotson comparison is about right but to me with his pace he reminds me more of Crowley. Look I hope I'm wrong and the club seems very happy to give him a lot of time and I agree they should but I just can't see it atm.

I think there are grounds for suspecting his kicking execution under pressure (direct or indirect) at this point. But if you think his skill is very very ordinary then you must be watching with your eyes shut.
It is 55 metres plus on both feet and onto the chest. This issue is whether he can do it consistently under pressure (as well as being too skinny obviously).

I'm prepared to give the kid time, but all this talk of his superb skills means nothing until he can execute at AFL level. From the few games he has had, his skills have been very ordinary. I hope this can improve, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Pitt is a laconical player in the mundy mould, i can assure you he is not nearly as slow as you are making out

Revisited draft reviews. Not lightening but good:

Kevin Sheehan says: Player with good reactive speed, agility and smart user off both feet. Reads ball off hands extremely well. All Australian in NAB AFL U18s in 2010, averaging 18 disposals .

Emma Quayle in Lach72 interview: "I don’t think top 10 for Jayden – maybe top 20. He is a very smart and instinctive player though, not unlike Fyfe in that way. A natural".

Hopefully your right KPR and my views are based on 8 games in a rookie year so I'm being very harsh I'm simply stating how I have seen him as a player so far there's a long way to go.

We'll know more by the end of the yr and he's contracted til the end of next so he's got plenty of time to change my opinion.

Paracleet if you can tell me where to see Pitt firing 50m passes on both feet and hitting chests then I'll gladly check them out. :thumbsu:

It must be at training? Perhaps this year we'll see a bit of it in a game

Even in his pre-draft highlights clip, his quality ball use was mostly out in space and often a handball receive. Clean use of the ball in congestion just doesn't seem his forte. Whether that will be overcome in ensuing years is always possible, but someone like Mundy took six years to become an effective inside ball winner, with no injury setbacks in that time.

Pitt's either got to develop quicker than Mundy and/or hope he doesn't cop any prolonged injury concerns to become the 'star' many are predicting.

People are taking crazy pills if we are writing off physically immature 18 yo kids based on their first few touches at the highest level. Did some super classy things too I thought.
It would be interesting to watch a clangers reel from 26 27 year old superstars in their first year as a comparison. Sure some kids hit the ground running but not everyone can come straight in at 18 & feel comfortable.
It's just too early to call either way.

Must admit not being sold on Pitt but he did do some nice things against WCE that made me think the kid could make it and be very handy for us in the future. He must start to dominate WAFL and earn his spot and once earnt he needs to be ruthless in keeping it (like every player). If he manages to do these things in 2012 he is on the right track.

It is crazy. People don't seem to understand that an AFL game can be scary for teeny tinny kids and sometimes in heavy traffic they rush to get rid of the footy. People aren't writing Fyfe off because his kicking under pressure can be very wayward also. As they gain experience they will have a fraction of extra time to precisely dispose of the ball. We are not even close to seeing the best of Pitt.

I agree with this, there will be no easy games for fringe players under ross lyon though

kobe stevens was taken at a similar draft position as pitt, and hax been pretty much bog ordinary for two years now and he had body size that pitt didnt, yet you dont see him being written off  I think we dockers supporters seem to be harsher than most supporter groups... i dont know why... perhaps too many dodd's and gilmore's in our history
