This isn't the bay, pal.

The majority of those games was when your mob was south of the ladder and most of that was necessity through injuries. He has either hit top form or he won't get a chance to at the Eagles. And I can't see any team gambling a top 20 pick that he will.

this and

philthy05 post

pretty much hammer. nail. head.

the reality is that he is just not first round quality.

and to the other poster who ? about Port Adelaide Football Club establishment date. 1870.

Sorry, I was just trolling.

You Port posters are probably right in saying that we won't get a pick between 10-20 unless he goes to GC or GWS. Given the state and age of our list, though, he's worth more to us than pick 28 (or whatever) in a compromised draft. So I hope he stays.

West Coast Gain: Liam Anthony & 2nd Rnd Pick
Lose: Brad Ebert & 4th Rnd Pick

Port Adelaide Gain: Brad Ebert & 4th Rnd Pick
Lose: Steven Salopek & Jacob Surjan

North Gain: Steven Salopek & Jacob Surjan
Lose: Liam Anthony & 2nd Rnd Pick

Thoughts?

Pick 28 seems a decent deal. I don't mind him as a player, but that doesn't mean we should pursue him at all costs. Our side is full of these guys who are inside midfielders, with no leg speed and questionable skills, and Ebert would just provide a bit of an upgrade on Thomas and Broadbent. But if he wants to come then we'll be happy to have him, still young so who knows what he'll end up like.

Port get him in the PSD, or West Coast take a player we offer or we just do not bother.

I really do not care if we get Brad Ebert or not.

Who are some young WA players both Adelaide and Port have they could potentially swap with Ebert?

In an uncompromised draft he would be worth a pick late first round or early second IMO... That would be somewhere pick 15 - 25.

This year, due to GWS, a late first rd is something like pick 25...

Therefore IMO he is worth a first round selection this year.

He has got potential, more so than Brock McLean who Carlton paid pick 11 for. If he can improve his kicking would be a solid AFL player in any side, which is more than you can so for many kids picked up after pick 25.

If no one wants to pay that, so be it. Would rather keep him if we can. The only reason he wasn't playing finals was we only had one player on the injury list, and he could still cement his spot in the 22.

so you state he should be a certain round,

explain what pick that is this year,

point out an example that was largely critisized at the time and has proved to be a mistake...

and claim that as proof of what you believe.

seriously, examine it yourself buddy. you didnt sell alot there. the one thing you mention is that you believe if he tidied up his kicking he could be a solid afl player and that is more than you would commonly expect of a kid picked after pick 25.

god forbid anyone actually drafted spuds like

darling
lycett
ash smith
andrew strijk
ashton hams
pat macginnity
eric mackenzie
matt priddis
matt rosa
mark lecras
adam selwood
mark nicoski
quinten lynch
dean cox
andrew embley

with picks after 25. boy that team would suck.

keep perpetuating the myth that its unlikely we would get anyone better with a pick after 25.

Cant see GWS taking him in the Preseason draft if he makes it clear he wants to return home?
IF and a big IF, IF Ebert wants to come home and he is uncontracted WC arent in the best negotiation spot... IF no deal can be made Power have Pick 2 in the PSD....

lol at bidding war.

take note west coast fans, while we know that opposition supporters dont always know heaps about out of vic teams but the fact that the only time someone has taken the slightest bit of interest in the fact he is out of contract is in hoping that it can be used in a 3way trade to help them get someone else.

now its only bigfooty, and it does appear likely that if he did leave that it would be back to sa but the fact that 7 pages in and not one person from outside of sa has jumped up and said wait a minute, this kid might be available do you reckon he would come to my club how about this trade should tell you something about his abilities and how he is rated by the general public on bigfooty. zero bloody interest.

1. I'm not your buddy

2. Congratulations for going through the draft and picking players on the Eagles' list to support your argument, if you honestly believe that every player picked between picks 25 - 50 are going to be solid contributors at AFL level then good on you.

3. Drafting is hit and miss.

4. To include players that were draft 8+ years ago is irrelevant, drafting has changed substantially over this time and it is getting harder to find good players deeper into the draft.

5. On the players you have named:

darling (agreed)
eric mackenzie (agreed)
matt rosa (agreed)

lycett (unproven but likely)
ash smith (agreed, on a par with Ebert at the moment)
pat macginnity (solid contributor but different roles, on a par with Ebert)

andrew strijk (rookie, played 1 match this year as a sub and got 3 disposals)
ashton hams (rookie, played 4 games)

matt priddis (rookie, can't compare)
mark lecras (too long ago)
adam selwood (too long ago)
mark nicoski (too long ago)
quinten lynch (too long ago)
dean cox (too long ago)
andrew embley (too long ago)

3 players I would prefer over Ebert
3 players are likely to be equal to or better than Ebert
2 players were fully fit all year and couldn't push Ebert out of the side
7 players were draft as rookies or too long ago (or both in the case of Cox, Nico and Lynch)

In summary, Ebert played 22 matches in a side that finished 4th on 17 wins who had little to no injuries concerns throughout the season (ie. picked on form). I state again, I would rather keep Ebert as a potential 200 game solid contributor than trade him for a pick over 25 where clubs generally have a 25-30% chance of drafting someone equal or better. The kid was captain of SA, received All Australian honours, is 21 years of age and has played 76 games at the highest level. I am confident he will work his butt off to fix his kicking deficiencies.
