If the guy ever hits more Port targets in a game while he's on our team than he did in Round 2 2010 when he was playing against us I'll be thrilled. I don't even think he's worth pick 28, but I'm sure the club will just give it up to get the deal done early and simply.

Apparently there are a few decent port players more than willing to leave port even if through the PSD to get away from the rabble

I'm aware of that but would they pull the trigger on a player who wants to return to SA. Sheedy would no dobt try to talk him around but he is leaving to return to SA as far as I know, not necessarily to get more opportunities.

As I said, other then top notch players, rarely do lower ranked players not get to where they want to go come trade/draft time.

Point is moot though. I deal will get done.

Can't believe the attitude from port supporters that this deal is a fiat-accompli and west coast will take whatever they are given.

Its simply not the case.

Probably the most embarassing, clueless post I've read for awhile on BF. Everyone we wanted to keep has already re-signed.

At this stage Port only have pick 28 to offer if WC aren't interested in a player as sweetener (which is completely understandable). If WC aren't happy with that then he can enter the PSD. I'm sure Port would have a good enough relationship with Choco to get a gentleman's agreement that they'll let Ebert slide to Port. If GC take him so be it, but WC then end up with no compensation which seems a dumb stance given a fair offer is on the table.

What has barely rated a mention is the contract Port would have on the table. Being forced to use up the last 7.5% of our cap this year, the huge contracts of Motlop, Chad and Brogan dropping off as well as a very high PSD pick was always going to mean that Port was likely to attract a quality player coming out of contract.

It's unlikely GC would want the burden of a significant 2-3 year contract given how many quality kids will be coming out of contract on their list in the next couple of years.

Port have significant leverage given all of the above yet still will offer pick #28 which most neutral supporters agree is more than fair. Most Port supporters don't want to see WC end up with no compensation forEbert either, however it's garbage attitudes like this that make part of me hope he walks and we take him for nothing and keep all of our picks

port should look for a deal that is good for them or walk. we are not being forced to do anything here west coast are the only team with limited options.

from my perspective what i have always said is that i understand west coast have every right to suggest pick 28 for ebert...

but i would not like to see port pay that for many reasons i have already stated.

as for the cries of ebert being worth a pick in the late teens, again i ask you if an uncontracted ebert is worth around pick 18 then what would matt thomas, rodan, broadbent and mitch banner ( some similar players and rodan) be worth in a trade?? because i know if we threw up their names on the board they would attract numbers like pick 50ish. there is no way that the gap between broadbent banner thomas rodan and ebert is that big. either you are valuing ebert too high or we can send you something like pick 20 and those 4 guys right after you send us 4 picks in the early 30's. cheers.

If Ebert does go to the PSD I don't think Port would have a problem with GWS taking him.
Choco is on record saying that he's disappointed his own sons are not Father/son with Port but are father/son with Collingwood.
So you would think he has some sympathy with Port on this trade and there would be a lot of hypocracy if they were to take him.
Not sure who Gold Coast would likely target in the PSD but you would have to wonder about their salary cap situation as to whether they could bring in many experienced players particularly if they think Tippett might be joining them next year.
