I go to all carlton home games fiancee is a mad carlton fan, he really struggled last year, when he is at his best he could be a good back up to fev.
I thought if he has a big pre season under him we would see the real fisher, this injury is a huge for him. I think he will be traded next year if he doesnt have a good year. A player like him needs to kick 50 plus goals in a season to help fev.

Fisher elbows lay-off fears

THE BAD news for Brad Fisher is that he dislocated his elbow last week.

The good news is that he’s already back doing fitness work with his Carlton teammates.

Fisher popped the joint out in a training mishap but football manager Steven Icke said he was already back on the track and keeping up his fitness.

“We were doing a tackling exercise and he just fell and unfortunately hit the ground awkwardly and popped his elbow,” Icke said.

“He put his hand down and landed the wrong way, [it was] just bad luck.

“You try to minimise those sorts of things, but we do need to do some competitive and physical training, and risks come with doing that type of training.”

The 24-year-old now has the elbow protected and while he has returned to Visy Park for training sessions, he can’t do any ball work.

“Now that the pain’s gone, he’s in an elbow brace and that controls movement, so he can continue his running and other aerobic work," Icke said.

“He’s probably going to be four to six weeks away from rejoining our program, so the break over Christmas helps. This is a minor setback for Brad and the club."

Despite the injury, Fisher is expected to take his place against Richmond in the season opener on March 26.

A career that started off with plenty of injury worries has turned around in the last couple of years, with Fisher missing just four matches in two seasons.

Fisher has played 91 matches for Carlton since he was drafted at number 72 in the 2002 National Draft, and last season led the Blues mark count with 151.

His average of more than seven marks a game ranked 17th in the AFL in 2008.

Why the hell is it a given he'll start Round 1? Even a fully fit Fisher may get edged out.

While I think that would be assumed, and the comment is more about him being ready to go Round 1, who would edge him out?

While players like Fisher, Russell ect. may have more trouble holding their spots in our side now, don't expect too many changes come Round 1.

We have a lot to prove this year, and our experienced players like Fisher will be guarenteed a place in the side until someone shows form to warrant them taking his place - that certainly won't happen in Round 1.

Cloke, Kruez, Wiggo, Walker and JR are all options to support Fev in the fwd kine in 09, alongside Betts and And yarran

Fish is no certainty for a rnd 1 spot

Sure, NAB form will be a factor but I think the Bookies would have Fish and Eddie as the favs to join Fev in the forward line and undoubtedly either Clokey or Kreuze will be there too depending on how the pre-season unfolds.

I wouldnt mind taking the bookies on with that one

Fisher will be there round 1, no doubt.

Ratt's has said a couple of times now that he will be one of the players rotating through the CHF post.

Lets not forget that in 2008 he started the season with a thumb injury which really affected him all year, normall the guy has sticky fingers but he just couldn't great it this year, he also got the 2nd KP backman most weeks which for his role was not normal, and he also played either at CHF or HFF fo rmost of the year so he was away from goal.

2009 should see him back to his normal role, 3rd/4th tall forward behind Cloke and Kreuzer and hopefully closer to goal.

So no new competition for Fish from today either...

As a marking forward pocket or half forward flank on the list - who does he compete with for a game?

Edwards?

Wiggins?

Or as our chief marking target?

Hartlett?

Cloke?

I thikn on this basis talk of Fisher's demise is very much exaggerated. 20 games barring injury from Fisher in 2009.

Like I keep saying too many injury riddled players. You can almost guarantee Fisher will have some sort of injury, that goes for a few others as well.

Its generally recognised that we've had a very good run with injuries. its just that 2 of our main options at half forward have had a succession on injuries; hartlett and Fisher. Add Cloke who up until 2008 had struggled to complete a season and its somehthing we've just decided to live with as a Club.

For someone so injury prone though he HAS managed to play 40 games in the last 2 years.

Yes Fisher is a ok player, but he should have played more and been ELITE by now.

Fev, Cloke, Kreuzer. All good tall options. Fisher out, Yarran in.

You need to get out of the cave more Batman
