Gerrard Healy said whispers believes Brad Green has some sticking points with new Melbourne contract. Would you be happy to have him in the team and trade a Fisher or thornton for him. Green can play back, midfield and forward and his skills are more superior than Fish and T-Bird

Will be 28 at the start of next season.

Again, a good AFL player who would slot straight into our 18. But I'd rather use the resources elsewhere.

I think Brad Green doesn't win a team matches. He's great at mopping up and getting 8 million possessions loose at half back and so on. I dunno if any team is a Brad Green away from a premiership.

Glad to see this because have been thinking about this all year

Would be an ideal pickup for us - is a natural athlete and gives us what we need most - polish

can also kick goals

He certainly is proven and versatile. I know he doesn't fit our criteria but geez, I wouldn't mind a couple of older heads that can find something when we need it. Would probably be better than Scotland and more consistent than Stevo.

I don't care either way really. I certainly wouldn't jump up and down and have a hissy fit if we got him. We got Hadley on the cheap and Green is far better. Would probably hinge on what we paid for him.

Fisher or Carrazzo for Brad Green and I'd be estatic. I know he's 28 but we really need someone with his footskills in the team.

The other thing you need to consider when offering trades is whether the players we are giving up would be in our long term best 22. 3 years of Green in our best 22 might be more useful than 8 years of two players being on the fringes. At the very least giving up two okay players for one better than okay older player frees up some cap room long term.

Oh and the Dees could do with a touch of experience themselves. A couple of older heads would not make them a threat to us but may help speed up their development.

Could certainly see Melbourne shopping Green around, as they must get as many draft selections as they can, before GC17 comes in. Not a chance that Green will be a significant part of their next finals campaign, much less their next premiership. The question we have to ask ourselves is: Would he add value to our list, and therefore, be selected in our first 18 each week? If it is yes to both of these questions, then yes, we should go after him, as long as the price is right.

I disagree...

One game comes to memory..

Was there. Took a couple of Kiwis to their first ever game. Little bastard, we had the game by the throat. Totally stuffed our premiership campaign. Maybe we recruit him and drown him?

Judging by Baileys comments to the media regarding the Dee's future, if they were to trade Green it would be for draft picks these guys are doing a straight rebuild with youth, I cant see them taking a Fisher/Carrazzo etc. Im guessing a Second rounder which Im not so sure about.

Me too, that was also the game when Schwarz ran into an open goal early in the 2nd quarter and held the ball aloft like the stature of liberty, I was praying we could hang on to stick it right up him.

On topic if we could get him in exchange for not much then i would "on trade" him as part of a package to maybe land a better prospect like Kerr, Brown, Didak or even better some more early draft picks.

Melbourne demanded pick 14 for Travis Johnstone
Therefore a second round draft pick is unacceptable for Melbourne's best player and B&F for 2008.

First round draft pick or no dice.

He's no special collar, just useful for a couple of seasons. Let's hope the Dees give him what he wants or you might lose him in the PSD to someone else. Of course if you take him in the PSD yourself you waste your pick and still agree with his terms.

I'm sure Green would do the right thing by the MFC and demand that he be traded on MFC's best terms.

Many players these days are traded even though they are out of contract to protect their former clubs interests.

Possibly, but if he had one club offering the terms he wants and his own club won't match it or come near it, then would his mind be changed? He would then be forced to accept an offer he had previously refused or stand fast on his wishes and go into the PSD to guarantee getting his way.

It may be harsh and disloyal, although the Dees shouldn't be in any salary cap danger in the first place, but I don't know if he would have goodwill towards the Dees if they did not rate him high enough to come close to another club's offer.

This sort of standoff is commonplace anyway. Nothing to get excited about.

Not a first round selection in this years draft. Second round at best.

No Dice, there would be no club offering a first rounder for him, I personally reckon he's the pants, soft outside flanker who can occasionally boot a couple of goals, nothing special. A B&F in the Melbourne side this year is hardly something to crow about, knocking off a couple of forwards forced out by injury and a few kids

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/demons-facing-salary-cap-cuts/2008/08/06/1217702145798.html

THE Jim Stynes-led Melbourne Football club has been ordered to cut its player payments if it is to extract a multi-million dollar cash injection from the AFL.

With the Demons two weeks away from finalising its crucial revised budgets and their business plan to be scrutinised by the league bean counters, Stynes' new board has accepted its overpaid playing list must accept a large TPP reduction in 2009 to 92.5% of the salary cap.

Currently, Melbourne is paying its players close to 100% of the salary cap despite languishing at the bottom of the AFL ladder.

In 2007, The Age understands Melbourne's player payments were the highest in the competition given that close to $300,000 in injury payments were inflicted upon the club along with its players earnings reaching close to 100% of the salary cap.

The AFL instruction was one reason why Stynes' board never seriously contemplated offering out of contract Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown a multi-million dollar deal. To date, the only club to have made Brown a concrete alternate offer is Collingwood which in recent weeks met Brown's management and put forward a complex five-year deal to the champion forward.
