Hey Guys, I heard this morning on Geelong radio that Brad Ottens was unhappy at the way Richmond have treated him and that Geelong is interested in securing him for next year, what gives? Is there any truth if so what would it take to get Brad to Geelong I know he had a great year in 2001 (all Australian - International rules etc) but has been hampered a bit by injury/poor form since. Is he a contracted player at Richmond after this year. I think for a player of his stature we would have prepared to pay up to 400k and possibly a player (eg Spriggs) and maybe a draft pick. I am obviously a Geelong supporter and it is no secret we are desparate for a strong marking forward. I know no one likes talking about losing players but just thought this was interesting. Your thoughts and inside knowledge would be great. Cheers

not sure about being treated unfairly.if anything quite opposite.however if he was put on the open market at the very least a top 10 pick and a player.unless geelong fall from grace dramatically then id say they are out of the piture unless they do a deal with a 3rd party.

cheers!

Scarlett or Ling would sit alright with me. Hunt or Mooney and a draft pick wouldn't mind either. Anyone you've got that wouldn't make me have a complete heart attack every time the ball goes into our backline. We'll even throw in Gaspar if you want. You don't want a new coach do you? We've got one that's not being used at the moment.

Ottens isn`t happy with the way he is being treated .............

Well F... me , if that is even remotely true, stick him on the first train west ( economy class ) and if he happens to get off at Geelong l first well stiff sh.. !!!!

Fair dinkum , We have bent over for the last 4 years and let him prance around on potential and well and truelly let him give us a fantastic rogering at our enormous expence , if he is "unhappy" then i`ll be the first one to wave him goodbye .

If the cats want him i know i would be being a smartarse to say scarlett but other than him i do not see who would suffice and you definatly won`t have the d-picks unless it would your 1-2 ................... maybe

Ottens wont be going anywhere. Miller is not stupid.
Time to fire up that chopper and take brad for ride.

FFS Dont give them Frawley.

If we do that we will have to give up another top line player to even the deal out.

LOL @ another Ottens isnt happy thread

line up behind the other 15 clubs who will all happily waste their draft picks on acquiring this overated player

best deal wins IMO.

If Ottens wants to 'back his truck' to load up on megabucks at Richmond he will get a nasty surprise.
Will be going elsewhere if he wants to be paid as an elite player - as he is far from it!
If he wants to stay at Richmond then he'd do so on less money than he's offered elsewhere. Either way I don't mind. He has potential but has shown NOTHING!

As I've stated quite clearly a number of times, I'm certainly from the Ottens = Untouchable brigade.

But given that such threads questioning Otto's future are about, I posted the following on the BF main board, just to gauge a reaction. What do you guys think ? Are we being robbed here ? Or am I being totally unrealistic ?

Three way deal.

Give Up
Richmond - Brad Ottens + 3rd Round pick to Adelaide, Darren Gaspar to West Coast

Adelaide - Tyson Stenglein + 1st Round pick to West Coast

West Coast - Chris Judd to Richmond

Gain

Richmond - Chris Judd

Adelaide - Brad Ottens + ~ pick 35

West Coast - Tyson Stenglein + Darren Gaspar + ~ Pick 7

If Port Adelaide want in, and the Crows don't, then maybe substitute Josh Carr for Ty Stenglein.

But, once again, Otto = Untouchable

I'm also one of the Ottens is untouchable brigade but only on the premise he is not going to do a Gaspar and hold out for more money. If he wants more money, he can go.

You've been well paid Brad and not produced what you're capable of. Time to give back to the club, not hold it to ransom.

Keep him and fire him up

Otto should certainly not be getting any more candy than he is now, but seriously if every ruckman in the league was put up for trade, I reckon Otto would be the 3rd one chased, possibly the second Prob after White (now 28 in in career best form) and Fraser (maybe).

Steven King - injuries
Gardiner - ditto
Primus - same again

If he was to go he'd be worth a top 4 pick at the very least.

Think about it, if Danny Jacobs (handy flanker at the absolute best) was worth #6 last year, what price a readymade ruckman/forward who is set to come into what is acknowledged as the prime of a ruckman's career? Have a look around - they're not many about. If he had some players at his feet who were desperate to get the ball, it would be excruciating.

He remains the player on our list most capable of winning a Brownlow.

You don't know what you've got until it's gone...

I`d be pretty sure that his statement this week about wanting to hold off on contract negotiations till the end of the year because "he wants to see how he goes and be judged on his merits " is just a crock.

My Bull..it detector decodes that to read " i Don`t want to sign anything because i want to see what offers i get when the silly season starts up. Hopefully i`ll wind up home in Adelaide "

That is how i read that .

If Adelaide said to us , first round pick and a quality youngster who " we " rate then off you go Otto

That would give us potentially 4 of the top dozen picks which if used wisely would be a great cornerstone for the future

I'd prefer to keep Otto as a Tiger. It seems to me to be counter productive to unload a fairly young and capable ruckman and then again take our chances in the kids draft.
Incidently I watched the u18 championships. There a certainly no standout ruckman IMO of Ottens"quality.

Be that is it may I'll have a go at the Otto trade game.

Ottens---->Port--Carr plus a middlish draft pick (say 30)--->Freo--Polak + a latish draft pick(say45) to Richmond

All the players are out of contract and allegedly keen to return home. It's a fairly simple trade and the participants could just deal over the vslue of the additional draft pick.I think everyone could be happy with this trade.

no one is untouchable!!

there is only the unwanted.

Undercoached?? perhaps.. but Overated most definately

He would be one of the first guys I'd look at in actually getting a fair bit for him in the draft that will send Richmond in the right direction.

If Ottens stays he will become another Richo like figure 10 years in a team of limited success (Ottens is not as half as good as Richo either)

He'll also be like Richo in that he'll probably have about 3 stellar years for which he'll gain great acclaim and great contracts whilst underperforming in the other 10 years of his career.

Guys just one question who the hell is going to ruck if we get rid of Otto? Staff is getting old and has 1 maybe 2 seasons left in him at the most. Marsh will probably go at the end of the season and we have no tall kids that are ready to ruck. If they can find a decent tall guy then maybe I would trade him but if ya can't he is a must keep. What good is it getting Judd if ya can't tap the ball to him.

couldn't agree more, I couldn't give a rats clacker if otto holds us to ransom....in fact it would be ideal in leveraging an envious position in the draft.....Otto wins the rucks week in week out,...and what difference does it make.....

I think the quote that he is holding off until he sees who the new coach is going to be is much closer to the truth.

Now here is a bloke that is crying out for a quality coach and some good career guidance and I reckon I'd be waiting to see who the new coach was going to be as well.

You woudn't want to sign up for 4 years to find that Tony SHAW was your new coach would you
