Bradley vs Platten

Who do you think was the better player? and why?

Both are great players and it's hard to separate both of them. I voted for Platten because I feel that he was a bit better at getting disposals and also his hair stood out.

If I voted for Bradley, it would have to be for his fitness and stamina. Didn't he win Goal of the Year in 1994? I think it was the banana kick against the Eagles at Optus Oval.

You'd struggle to find two more different players but the fact that both were champions shows what's so great about this game.

The Rat was the ultimate in an under machine. At the bottom of every pack and ran all day.

Bradley gets canned for being a receiver but he was a great one. Great pace, skills and endurance.

Bias prevails. The Rat for me.

No bias here, Platten was the best inside/ouitside rover I've ever seen. He could tunnel in almost as good as Deisel, he could link play with fantastic hands and feet, kick goals and could run free like a lairising gutless show pony, which is all Bradley ever was.

Basically Platten was as good as Bradley at what Bradley did, and braver, gutsier and more versatile to boot. Absolutely no contest.

Bradley played in the centre as well so it's wrong to say he's a receiver who couldn't win the ball or "go in".If you had a player with Bradley's pace, endurance and an ability to kick 70 metres, why would you use him in the middle where he's less damaging?

Bradley for his longevity which is the same reason Cyclops chose Dunstall over Sticks.

...which is why Williams, Brown and Ratten all played centre ahead of him. In fact if we're talking grunt then De Iulio is ahead of Braddles.

Less damaging? Thats right, the "key" positions run from back pocket, half back flank, wing, half forward flank, forward pocket. Bradley was an outside player because he didn't have the guts or grunt to go where the pill is won. He was a receiver, a very very good polished receiver.

Bradley for his longevity which is the same reason Cyclops chose Dunstall over Sticks.

I chose Dunstall because the Pies need him more. I choose Platten because he's that much better its not funny.

the rat was a machine. he was tireless and gave his all for the team. bradley was much the same but my heart and head say platten.

I think in the guts of their careers Platts was slightly ahead, but Bradley's amazing longevity taken into account...

maybe platten a fractionally better player, Bradley a fractionally better career?
