If Allen leaves as a FA does that compo get weakened if the Eagles take Starce? They might want to do a trade.
Would Brisbane accept a 2nd rounder?

No.

Pony up west coast.
Yeah, so they won't trade for him then.

They'll get a single first round pick for Oscar. They'll only trade for Stadcevich if they can pay less than that.

If Oscar stays I suspect we’ll offer Starcevich a band 2 contract.

If Oscar wants to go to Brisbane we’ll not match a band 1 offer and get a very favourable trade on Starcevich.

If Oscar goes elsewhere for band 1 we’ll have to pay a decent pick for Starcevich to not dilute the Oscar compo.

WCE are rich but I don't think they own any stables.

Alright, we will accept a hungry jacks franchise. I hear there’s a lot of those going around over in the west.

Eagles and Freo only target WA players it seems.

It's not quite comparing apples with apples, but it gives some perspective. The list of players who just straight went home is too weighted by the number of Victorian players and clubs, in my opinion, but when you factor that in when viewing the list above it makes it more significant.

What percentage of players traded / FA to WA over the same period were originally from WA?

I believe the last time I ran those numbers it worked out that WA and SA players were equally/more likely to extend their careers at another interstate club than to return back to WA. The number is vastly different for Victorian players drafted interstate.

Granted there is a lot of distortion recently by the drafting of Victorians into GC and GWS and them leaving for opportunity elsewhere, but the proportion of players from each state should be matched with the number of players leaving to "go home" - but it isn't.

Next argument is that random chance would have greater than half the players in the league end up in Victoria anyway. Which is fair, if contracts are considered outside of Victoria equally to those within - which I don't think is the case.

I dont think id bother if i am Eagles the more I think about it. Whats the point in letting Allen go to bring this guy in? May as well just keep Oscar etc.

If Oscar stays id target Starcevich, if not id let him go to Freo/Brisbane and use the 2 mill elsewhere

Perfect for eagles. They can afford to pay overs salary cap wise, and don't need to give up picks for him.
Yeah. Probably struggling to reach the cap floor.

I wonder if they orchestrate a trade for him if Oscar Allen walks. Protect that FA compo. Brisbane and West Coast probably work out a handshake deal before trade week even starts.
