Yep. Pretty sure that's why Voss only officially retired in 2007 despite being a commentator that year, because otherwise the Lions would have been over the cap. Same as why - I think - Fosdike retired when he did a couple of years back for us.

It's a difficult point for the club though, Bradshaw clearly wants a break from footy, but I'm sure the club would want the contract fulfilled in some manner through a stint of coaching perhaps - a few on here have suggested him be a goal kicking coach - but I'm sure the club will let him do as he wishes. But it still means we're effectively paying him for a year to sit around twiddling his thumbs.

I 'think' that if a player retires, he ultimately voids the remainder of his contract for the following season/s.

If a player is sacked or traded, the contract continues or is renegotiated with new club and occasionally the former club chips in (note Fev). So long as everything is within the AFL TPP for each season, i think it's all ok...I 'think'?

Voss was commentating in the final year of his contract, it wasn't like he tried to play on. The reason for it was given that if he retired the previous year it would push their salary cap over the limit.

Very true, no argument from me here...but!

We don't know how that contract was structured but I would assume it was front-ended and had he retired and been delisted then that would have been in breach of his contract conditions submitted to the AFL and they would have paid out over 2 years instead of 3, thus putting the club over the salary cap for the previous 2 seasons. By not delisting him, they have paid out the contract over the 3 years and in accordance with AFL TPP. They can mutually agree all they want...Voss has his cash!

Braddy on the other hand may have been signed for $1.2 @ $400k per season and therefore 'may' take the option of being paid (or not) for remainder of this season with rescind of the $400k next season.

I may or may not make much sense, but it comes down to how your contract is structured, the conditions, clauses, AFL rules, contract law and mutual negotiation skills.

Yeah but u knew I had dodgy thumbs and I had surgery a few times and made them worse so I hurt them because of you and I want my money
