Can anyone tell me about them?

Are they worthy enough; to give up draft picks for them?

Where would they go in the draft, if they weren’t eligible under the father son rule?

Brayden would have been drafted last year had he been old enough.
Both very quick (much quicker than their dads).
A picture of them in the paper last week standing next to their dads showed them both to be a fair bit taller than their dads
Apparently both would go fairly early if the F/S did not apply.

What the hell would I know. Times like these you consult the Wiz!!

"Both are good players.

I assume the club will pick both up under F/S without needing a lot of tiem to think about it.

The dilemna is this. Popular opinion on this board and in the media suggests we have a number of structural deficiencies in our playing list. Brayden and Heath are definite draft candidates even if they were not anyone's son. On face value, though, neither specifically solve one of our main structural weaknesses.

That means that in terms of improving the quality of our list, yes, the Shaws are attractive. However, our 2nd and 3rd round picks would be gone, without necessarily solving an immediate problem, and hence those picks could not be used to secure (via trade or draft) the solution to our most glaring problems (eg ruck, speedy midfielder with finishing skills etc).

If Heath can get completely over his O.P. fallout, he could even be ready for some senior games next year, such has been his improvement trend. Brayden (if his shoulder continues its comeback successfully) is certainly physically capable of seniors in '04.

Brayden is a traditional rover type (albeit 5'11" and solid). Has "good enough" pace but is not lightning and is not a silky finisher. Ignoring his most natural role and looking instead in terms of our publicly-discussed team role gaps, maybe he could be tried as a back pocket (although he is not a natural defender).

Heath is handy around goals and useful overhead. Is recovering from O.P. and appears visually to be not quite over it. Is tenacious, courageous and smart and could play a number of roles in time. However, like Brayden, he too could be described as having handy, but not special, pace and being not a classy kicker. Maybe he too could be tried as a BP but he is better suited to being a roaming 5'11" forward or midfielder."

Colin Wisbey (written yesterday)

As Col points out, we have heaps of onballers who are not McLeod, Akermanis, B. Harvey etc..

We need that type of player. If we take both of them (and we will) then we need to trade some mid-pacers. Scoots, O'Bree, Woewodin and others of that single paced ilk will come under scrutiny as trade bait.

Others at Hottie's board have expressed a liking/preference for Heath over Brayden, although Brayden is the magnet, Heath appears to have a bit of an x-factor that makes him stand out.

Just on the point of them not going to improve our list structurally, would it be too soon, and too reliant on hope of them making it, to trade away similar players to them to try to aid our structural deficiencies?

About their height - I heard Tony Shaw say Brayden (his son) is 181 cm and the Heath is "about" 180cm which puts them both over 6 foot in the old.

As for their kicking, anyone who can kick better than Ben Johnson has to a bonus
