Don't get sucked in by the Essendon hoopla. Sure McCartney's a great bloke, but it's all Essendon marketing, trying to sugar up the bad taste left in the mouths of many. He's been on Media St. all weekend, and now Bomber is doing ads for a membership drive, sounding like death warmed up. Since when do assistants (cough, ahem) do membership drives?

I've known Macca since i was 13 and he was my coach in yr 11,12 at Chanel College. He has always had that ability to be an excellent people person and he's tactictal nous is the best from any coach i have encountered. The main focus for players under he's coaching was to put your head over the ball, never back away from a contest and tackling pressure.
I last spoke to Macca late in 2006 and he had some interesting things to say about Mark Blake and was confident that a Cats dynasty wasn't to far away.

Oh no,another ex-****ters Paradise student :D

It wasn't that bad! I also had the priviliage of being in the same class as Brad Johnson. Ripping bloke is Johnno.

I played one game against Chanel years a go where some of there players got the cuts at 3 quarter time, still have trouble believing it:eek:

You're right it is very interesting. Hmmmmm the same day it is revealed on Offsiders that Dean Bailey is in the gun at Melbourne we get a glowing article about an amazing coach whose speciality is developing young players.... amazing!!

Who were you playing for and what year? We played a game against St.Josephs in which there was an all in brawl.

The contrast to me is how we handled McCartney, who wanted out, and how the Maggies handled Neeld who also wanted out. McGuire told Neeld he was too valuable to be released from his contract and would serve it out. That's what we should have done with McCartney. Particularly after the dirty underhand way they got Bomber. I'd have given them nothing.

i thought that was parade college.

Is Parade a boys college ?
The term probably applies to all boys colleges.

I had McCartney as a sports teacher and thought he was a prick, but to talented sports people [i.e Peter Riccardi] he loved them.He couldn't give a shit about nuffies like me.Michael Kol was the better sports teacher.

Carpet head was his nickname. I got along well with Macca and he was my personel trainer for cross country

I was in Michael Kol's yr 7 class and my parents rented his house the yr he won the gardiner medal in 1989. Nigel Kol was the prick.

I had Brian Cordy as a teacher in yr 11 and he was a prick.

Jesus, hope for your sake there's no truth to the theory you grow up and take on the traits of your mentors.

Brian Cordy was good and he has a hottie wife,Karen, who was a part time teacher at Chanel ;)

You're right about Nigel. They say it's hard to tell the difference between identical tiwns. Not with the Kol's - Michael was a nice bloke who smiled,Nigel was a grumblebum who you'd avoid.

Boom Geelong recruit Michael Crutchfield was a total dunce, which explains why he later became a politician :o

Totally disagree.

The bastard wanted to leave, so see ya later.

If you don't want to be part of the Geelong Football Club you can **** off.'

Why in God's name would you want to retain a coach who didn't want to be there??

Might as well have told Thompson to see out his contract while you're at it if you want to be consistent.

I wonder if last year was Bomber waiting for Macca to say yes too? I mean as Hird has pointed out, Brendan is the one kicking goals down there so far. After 7 seasons, Bomber's coaching record would have gotten him sacked in 99% of cases after 2006. Costa's loyalty and then Cook saved him with the review.

I admire Thompson's resilience in the job, but largely as we know now he was tactically flawed. And now you start wondering without Macca would Thompson been seen as such a great teaching coach of young players? I guess with Macca now at Essendon we wont ever know. ;)
