Gday fellas..

Just wanted to say best wishes to B Mac... :thumbsu:

No one likes to see season ending injuries for any team. Hope he can get back next season with a clean run.

We had Menzel go down last year so I feel your pain. :(

Best of luck

Go Catters...

Let's take this scenario:
- Collingwood finish around the top of the ladder in 2012
- Excluding 'Caff, we lose 6 players at season's end to delisting and retirement.
- We promote 2 rookies.
- Ignore any GWS poaching because there will be a compensation pick to cover that.

So, accounting for GWS compensation picks, we're basically comparing 'Caff to a pick 90+ in the draft.

I reckon that 'Caff would be far more valuable than a pick 90+ kid.

But those high picks are also good for picking up recycled players. Are we likely to get a recycled player of the calibre of 'Caff at pick 90+? Unlikely. You don't pick up a Luke Ball at pick 90+, you pick up a Leigh Brown who we took a risk with and struck it lucky.

IMHO, being 'cut throat' about it still points to keeping 'Caff.
Maybe. However the assessment is not so much Macaffer v pick 90 as is Macaffer v the alternative last player to delist. That might be Buckley, Rounds or Sinclair or they may go anyway and it may be someone else. While right now I'd keep Macaffer ahead of the 3 I mentioned, they will all have a chance to impress in 2012 and take their name off the comparrison sheet. Maybe 1 of them does and the comparrison is Macaffer v promoting a rookie another club wants to take or enough cap space to re sign an vastly improved Buckley/Sinclair/Rounds. Maybe re signing Wellinham becomes a matter of an experianced player's salary v a draftee's.

I hope he stays and I suspect he will but he was vulnerable before the knee so it can only make him more so. In any case he will be on a list in 2013 because a number of clubs would jump at teh chance to take him - at the very least in the PSD.

Doesn't it only become "Macaffer v the alternative last player to delist" if we have trouble making our quota of players who retire / get delisted?
