Injury Brent Macaffer - Knee injury likely ACL

Just saw the vision of him in the rooms on crutches during the Jackson Paine interview.

Poor lad is hurting big time, breaks your heart seeing that.

It'd be good in situations like this if the club could organise for the members to fill out a virtual online get well card or something. Having 70,000+ people wish the lad well and encoraging him to look after himself and get himself back is perhaps something a little special and our organisation is uniquely capable of doing.

Good Idea!

Re: Brent Macaffer - Knee.

Your assumption or did you hear/read this somewhere?

Jon Ralph on Twitter said 25 mins ago that the Pies have confirmed that he's "done his knee" - which I assume means ACL.

Jon Ralph may end up being right, in fact he is right, let's face it, but the club won't know for certain until Caff actually has the scans tomorrow.

This Age article sums up where the situation is at;

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/magpie-macaffers-season-in-doubt-20120219-1th13.html

Macaffer left the field during the Magpies' NAB Cup opener against the Western Bulldogs in Blacktown last night with a suspected torn anterior cruciate ligament.
He will undergo scans on his knee, and if the injury is confirmed, the 22-year-old will be out for the season with a reconstruction looming.

So basically, Ralph like everyone else is really just going off what Bucks' said last night.

Re: Brent Macaffer - Knee.

If it's a ACL I hate to say he it.

He be a Candidate to be De-Listed at Seasons end:(

then the coaches should go to the players and tell them if they go in too hard and get hurt, we might have to delist them....

in other words, teams that delist injured players wont impress the players that stay on the list...

in other words, he wont get delisted at the end of this year under any circumstances..

Yep, and I'd say it's more likely he re-signs again at a cheap rate so he wouldn't be much of a risk to keep around.

Re: Brent Macaffer - Knee.

Another ACL caused by a player diving at the ball and pinning a foot/ankle in the process? A natural by product of the state of the rules at the moment. Caff is an unfortunate victim of a set of rules that encourages reckless self endangerment. Someone is going to wind up with a serious head injury or worse from this stupidity sooner or later and some smart lawyer is going to sue the living daylights out of the AFL.

Perhaps then we will see some common sense in rule making.

Players have been diving in head first on the ball for over 100 years.

If anything the new holding the ball rules have been implemented to stop this.

Confirmation of what we all feared;

http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/newsfeatures/news/newsarticle/tabid/5586/newsid/129181/default.aspx

Scans have confirmed that Collingwood forward Brent Macaffer suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the opening round of the NAB Cup in Blacktown on Saturday night.

Macaffer will meet with the surgeon this evening to discuss the surgery and rehabilitation process.

We all feel for you Caff.:(

It's been confirmed from the club this morning that he has ruptured his ACL. Spewing! I hope he gets Lars or I think he may have played his last game for the club.

A little dramatic isn't it!

Caff isn't the 1st to go down with an ACL and won't be the last. I think the club will stick by Caff and get him through this difficult period and let's hope we see the 2010 version of Caff firing early next year.

Speedy recovery :thumbsu:

Re: Brent Macaffer - Knee.

Agree with TRS... if the medical staff think it's an ACL injury it virtually is certain, because there's really nothing else that has the same physical signs.

Can't even recall a single time where a suspected ACL, after the examination by medical staff, wasn't.

Dreadful news, poor WCE would have been perhaps even more devastated with Le Cras' injury.

I know from experience that nothing is certain with ACL injuries.
I injured my knee 2 years ago, got deferring opinons from doctors as to what the injury was.
Got a MRI done, showed an ACL tear. Went in for surgery to have my meniscus repaired, after the doctor had been inside the knee, determined that the ACL was still in tact.
Its very rare though.
Im no expert, but Macaffer's injury did look bad :(

Macaffers career is in massive doubt, his just an average player who isnt that young and now its gonna be two whole seasons were he basically hasnt played....

Should go for Lars, worth the risk.

Espically with a Strong Draft that is NON compromised Draft

If it comes down to him, I reckon he might opt for LARS. Just a feeling, but you'd think he'd feel under the pump to prove his value...

I reckon he should just do whatever is the right thing for his body.

He just needs to do the rehab, get his body right, and probably even more importantly, get his head right.

IMHO The only reason the club would delist him is if he goes through the whole thing with a bad attitude.

Having only signed a one year deal it is both unfortunate and clear that Caff is going to be in some strife come season's end particularly as this was the year for him to re-prove his worth after suffering from injury in 2011.

We all rate him very highly and I'm certain there are a fair few others who should and hopefully will get the chop before him but IMO, from a personal note, he has no choice but to opt for LARS which would return him to the field in approx a 3 month period. He'd be back running after a month too which should not hinder his current fitness levels too much.

Unless the club makes it perfectly clear to him that we will stick by him and he will be retained at all costs beyond this season, he has no choice IMO but the LARS option.

I hope this works out well for us and Caff. He needs to be retained at all costs.
