Was just wondering how you thought Brent would go for the year?

I see that most/all of you have him on the wing for your Round 1 teams. I had a look at how he went last year and he only played a few games (albeit he broke his collarbone) and didnt exactly set the world alight (all < 10 possies). I hear he's starred on the track but does that mean he's a cert for the wing spot?

He was a Roos supporter as a youngster and there was talk last year of him being traded to us in the Carey deal. So Ive taken a vit of notice of him.

Looking forward to your responses.....

He should be an absolute living certainty to play on his pre-season training and form.

This lad is a cut above average and has every attribute to be a top-liner - pace, balance, skill, disposal, footy smarts and that rare factor - time.

I expect him to hold down a wing all year barring injury and really get his career rolling.

In time, I see him moving to the mid-field and become a hard-running on-baller as Nick Stevens did when at Port.

I actually know Reils preety well and i can tell you that there is no chance in hell of him coming back in the next couple of years, the guy is loving adelaide (suprisngly :p ) and playing for the club. In his first year he was preety homesick i think as he was very close to mum dad and his sister so i think the adjustment did take alot of time for him.
He is deffiently a cut above most footballers and has the build and football smarts to be a gun at this level, in saying that this year is vital for his development and he needs to prove his worth as a footballer and a top 15 pick.
My tip would be if he does not have a fantastic year at the top level he might fade a little into the wilderness and become just another 'player', it would be a shame as the talent he has is mouth watering.
Cant wait to watch Reils play some good footy and take the step i think and know he will.

cheers

Thats music to my ears mate. Last year I was really worried that he would want to go back home. As you said he was very homesick in his first year so I always thought at the back of my mind that he might leave but after hearing from a few people that he is very happy in Adelaide and love the place, I am bloody wrapped we got him especially since he is a genuine football talent who has the potential to be an absolute gun.

As macca23 said unless he gets injured at training he is a deadset certainty to play in round 1. Reilly has been burning in the pre-season matches so far. Against St. Kilda in the wizard cup he started on the bench because he got concussed the week before but when he came on he turned the game around for us and kicked a couple of goals. I think he is set for a big year and I think he will give the rising star award a real shake this year.

Yeah, I can see the similarities BUT I would say Reilly is not as "soft" as Nick Stevens.

Stevens started off his career a bit on the soft side, but I wouldn't call him soft now - he definitely toughened up somewhat.

I agree re Reilly - he's never been soft. He has to learn how to protect himself a bit better though.

Well thats good to hear he loves Adelaide. And so he should, lovely roomie and lovely pink (or according to Kris Massie 'Atlantic Salmon') house.

And Tige19, have you PM'ed me once before asking if I was indeed the 'real' Brent Reilly? I cannot keep up with the amount of people on Bigfooty who know the bloke and have PMed me asking how I know him.
Must have been popular boy back in Melbourne

I would think he's able to take that next step. Hopefully he has a good year and doesnt get anymore injuries. He will be very important on the wing for us this year and should occupy the positition for many years to come. :D

I am of the same opinion. I don't think I am biased but from what I have seen of the kid so far in the pre-season, he has improved and is set for very good year.

If Reilly can stay injury free (as macca23 said he has to learn to protect himself better) he will give the rising star a mighty shake. One thing that I think will be against him is the "reluctance" of these judges to award SA youngsters with the nominations.

Reilly will catch an eye of many. He has pace, carries the ball very well, breaks the lines, uses the ball very well, kicks goals, goes in hard and is beautifully balanced. I really have high hopes for the kid. I think we got ourselves a dead set gun :D

And its great to hear that he loves the place and loves playing for the Crows. Very nice for a change when victorian draftees are concerned.

We're starting to get a few young Vics now that are comfortable about living here rather than wanting to go home.

Watts, Reilly, Schuback are all going to be long term Crows players and are happy to be so. As is Hudson.

Add a few experienced players such as Welsh, Massie, Carey, Burns, and Mark Stevens and it just goes to show that all the Vivs we recruit aren't sooky la la's. ;)

Welshy is South Aussie through and through ;)

It certainly is a nice change. Our drafting history is filled with high draft picks wasted on players with good to great potential only to see them leave us high and dry before they develop or in some cases aren't mentally strong enough to play in the league.

Reilly has settled down and is happy. Schuey was happy from the moment he got drafted (gotta love country lads who are generally more prepred for a move to interstate) even Ben Finnin was happy with Adelaide.

Now we have Fergus Watts who couldn't hide his excitement so things are panning out nicely. Massie is also very happy in Adelaide. I think he likes the laid back atmosphere. :D

I think we have some good youngsters to we can build the side around. Watts, Reilly, Schuback, Krueger, Hentschel, Johncock, Jericho all provide us with some ingridients to form a good side. All have peotential to be good to great AFL players.

I read some responses of Gary Ayres to questions from supposters and he thinks Jezza will be a good player. From what I have seen (and I must admit its only 3 games) I have to agree with him. There is just something about the kid that catches your attention. He has a bit of flair about him.

Shhhhhh Stiffy, as we wouldn't want most of the Melbourne media experts to get the impression that we have any quality youngsters, as then they may actually rate us. Remember our side is made up of Dad's army! ;)

Actually I went to watch the Bays and Westies in the trial game on Saturday and Jezz was very impressive. I agree with what you said about him catching your eye, he just seems to have that speed and that great leap that will always keep you peeled throughout a match. He also has that pre season bleached hair which is extremely hard to miss :p

He played up foward for a half where he kicked a lovely goal and took some strong marks, and then played in defence for the second half where he took some fantastic defensive marks and really put the pressure on. I really think he belongs up back because he has the speed to put pressure on an attack.

He's going to be good. Can't wait to see him play for the crows hopefully this year at some stage

Jezza's got flair. :D

Extremely good athlete who can play. Next year I expect him to come in and play some games. Considering the AFC trend in recent times, Jezza might get a game or 2 this year and be expected to get a few more in 2005.

Who knows maybe he will be another forward who can kick goals and play small and big (ala Welshy).

Time will tell but from what I have seen so far I think he is a genuine prospect.

BTW, Radar, did Schuey play and if so where did he play and how did he go????:)

Well Jacob/Simon from 'my resturant rules' :p ( is it just me, or does he look like this bloke?) was fairly busy in the first half, mainly playing on the half back line/ wing. he had his bursts at times and went a bit quiet at other times. His disposal was first class as always.

What I can't understand is how he literally went missing in the second half. He didnt come on once :( When the Bays were walking off at the end he was holding his stomach and looked to be in a bit of pain. Either that, or I'm reading into it too much. But I think thats the only way he couldve possibly been taken off

Not really but with Bode unlikely to play it opens up a spot for Schuey. If it was up to me I would play him.

Bode and Torney are unlikely to play so already thats 2 spots available in the 22.

Bode Isn't playing? His injury was worse than I had thought:confused:

Well when you look at it that way , I guess it does leave that spot open. Hopefully if Shuey is lucky he can play his heart out and book a spot for round 2 :D

Bode and Stinga are both doubtful with sore groins.

Shirley becomes a near certainty to play if they both miss.

Schuback or Skipworth would then probably fight out the remaining spot.

Interesting.
